- the car is a good size for a small suv
Purchased As New
after 1 year the cooling system broke then after I paid 600 to fix it Ford sent out recall notices, and it stated that if it was repaired before the recall notice go to a ford dealership and they will send the paperwork for a refund...of course I never got a recall after months and months of phone calls i even took it to another dealership, i can go on,,,point it i never recieved any refund, this year my axle broke, and my steeringwheel locked , my steering wheel cost 3000.00 to fix at a ford dealer,...I will never buy a ford again, it was my 1st and last ford. I am going to have them pick this SUV up and shove it......read morehide

- Nice looking, good fuel economy,
- extremely uncomfortable ride in the passenger seat, cheap looking interior
I had a Ford Expedition, I loved it, we traded for better fuel ecomomy and the Expedition was getting old. I am very sorry I traded the Escape is very uncomfotable to ride in, drivers side isn't quite so bad, but the head rests are positioned very poorly. I am definately going to trade it in ASAP. I really don't like it at all. The dealer was not very helpful or accomodating either....read morehide

- Good Fuel Economy, lots of room, great interior and exterior style.
- Braking is a *little* weak but ABS works fine.
I have had my 2008 Ford Escape XLS I-4 AWD for 3 months now and I LOVE it. The 4-cyl engine is a *bit* lacking in power, but I expected that (given the size and weight of the vehicle) and have adjusted my driving accordingly. The trade off is 22MPG's city driving and I'm very happy with that.
I've noticed during highway driving when going up long steep hills that the car loses speed. I was pushing down hard on the accelerator to try and keep my speed up but that wasn't working so good. What I learned was to press the O/D button on the automatic transmission shifter (the owner's manual says that's what it's for) and that works a *lot* better. For long highway trips (which I don't make a lot) getting the cruise control is probably worth it. It's the one option I didn't get that I wish I did.
This vehicle is what it is and it's not what it's not (i.e. a full size SUV to pull a boat or something). It does just about everything very well and is an *excellent* vehicle for the price as long as you know what you're getting. If you do want to pull a boat or if you need a full-size SUV, then get one along with the 15MPG's or so that it will give you....read morehide

- Everything about this car is a Pro
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this vehicle. I used to have a Taurus station wagon and didn't realize how much I didn't like driving that car until I bought my Escape back in 2003. I really enjoy driving this compact SUV and it fits my 3 labs in the back area pretty well too which was a big selling point for me! :-} The gas mileage is very good....I would most definitely buy another when I'm in the market for a newer vehicle....read morehide
