- exterior looks good. reliable for about 20,000 miles. 4X4 works suprisingly well for an auto engage
- horrible quality
Purchased As Used
Bought with 16,000 miles. Noticed that there wasnt a lot of power (but its a 4cylinder) and the tires quickly wore out the inside edge. Dealership said the tires were made of poor rubber and they have since stopped using them. They would not give me new tires. Decided get as much out of the continental tires as possible. Had two alignments done only to find out that it was supposedly "good enough." (89.99 each) At 37,000 mi. trans cooling line to A/C condenser blows spraying tranny fluid aver the front of the engine and all bearings fail ($1200.00 and still have a squeal when A?C is on) TSB bulletin made by ford but no recall until 2010. Try to get that reinbursement through Ford. Drivers window jumps in the track. Sun visor is so tight im afraid it will break when moved. Drum brakes very loud and I have to keep takin off the drum and dumping the dust to quiet them. And, every seat in the car is stained. Finally at 60,000 mi I blow one of the crapy continental tires that i have been listening to for 2.5 years wobble down the highway and decide to replace all 4. Going to go with $1000.00 Michelins. The shop installs the tires and but then tells me that its out of alignment. Not usually a big deal except he says it can't be fixed because of poor design. To adjust the camber you have to loosen the bolts and rotate the strut tower. Unfortunately mine is adjusted as far as it will go and therefore the front wheels will always ride on the inside edge. Of course that immediately voids the tire warranty. Thankfully they put the three old tires back on the car and even gave me another tire from an escape with the same problem that they had replaced earlier all free of charge. I cant wait to see what happens next. Hopefully it gets hit by a semi when parked on the side of the road causing enough damage to total it. Thankfully I have gap insurance because it has to be worth less than half what I paid. I am only 27 years old but between my wife and I we have owned 6 Ford vehicles. My last was a 93 explorer that in 2007 i put the first and only $100.00 into it to fix a rusted muffler. Unfortunately it rotted to the point that it couldn't pass inspection and i still sold it for $500.00. Before now I've always loved Ford but between this escape and my wife's 2009 Mustang (a whole different story) I will never give Ford another penny. FORD (Fix Or Repair Daily)...read morehide

- For an SUV, MPG's are excellent. Front panel instruments. Stereo. Options packages.
- The only negative I have is the cars accelleration.
Just recently bought the Ford Escape 2008 XLT, 4WD I4. This is a really great car for the price. Bought my car with the Convenience, Sun and Satellite and Audiophile packages. Love the sunroof, dashboard displays, instrumentation, and the 320 watt, 7 speaker stereo (Audiophile package). Averaging about 22 mpg's in the last three weeks - again, excellent for an SUV.
My old car was a V6 Chevy Blazer. Loved it until gas prices started going through the roof. The Escape offers me good fuel economy, 4WD for the occasional snowstorms we get, plus the cargo and passenger room I was looking for.
My only negative is the acceleration, particularly when moving into 2nd gear. But I think this has more to do with me getting used to the 4 cylinder horsepower. Hey - can't complain too much though - trading in some power for the fuel economy, that's all.
Bottom line - quality verses price, I don't think you can beat the value! Highly recommend anyone in the market for a small SUV to at least take a test drive!...read morehide

I take my hat off to Ford on this one! I have a 2006 Escape and I like it alot but from the ride to outside this is a fine SUV to own! I have been happy with cars before but I can not say enough about this one I am very happy with the ride to the MPGS!!!!

- Fuel Economy 21 mpg overall, 26-28 mpg highway, Radio, Dash Board Layout, Comfortable Quite Ride,
- Black Paint easily scratches, Local Dealer Service Department is "Low In-Class"
To Shad Steinway from Seattle, WA (12/16/07) with the Disappointing MPG. If your traction control light keeps coming on this is causes your brakes to engage, and this will effect your gas milage.
This is something I would have fixed really soon...... Do not accept dealer excuses.

- Great SUV fuel economy, sleek new design, handles and rides well
- Haven't found any yet.
LOVE THIS SUV!!
We just purchased ours brand new and love it! Had a hard time getting our hands one that we wanted; they are flying off the lots in our area. We had an F150 and it was costing us 80 dollars to fill up and now it only costs 46 dollars with the Escape and we are getting the same mileage!!!
Beautiful interior. Very comfy and lots of leg room in the front. The radio/mp3 player are very easy to use. Also came with free satelite radio for a year. The moonroof is a great addition. We love it also because we were able to get lots of additional features without having to buy the most expensive model (a rarity with Ford models).
Taking away the plastic lining at the bottom that was on all of the previous models really made the outside much more appealing. Ours is black and it looks great!...read morehide
