- Gas mileage, looks great, compact but still an SUV.
- Seats stain immediately, rough and jerky at first.
Purchased As New
It looks great and is just the right size. You get an SUV but it's compact and great on gas, what more could you ask for! When we first got it we came from a larger SUV which I guess handled more smoothly because it took me just a little bit to get used to this, felt a little rough and jerky. But now I barely notice it and love it! The only thing I have a problem with are the seats stain with just a drop of rain water or sweat off a cup. Leaves big ugly white spots. Invest in leather seats or you will regret it. Just google "Escape seat stains" to see all the complaints. Ford pretends the problem doesn't exist. Other than I have had it going on 2 years and I couldn't be happier....read morehide

- Very good fuel eco. in town and on the highway, ride is a little stiff, like the auto-dim rear/view
- Ride is a little stiff, but it's new, may take a few miles too loosen up.
The SUV is great as far as mileage is concerned. Has plenty of power ,I-4 for me. Sirus radio is wonderful, a lot of choices for listening pleasure.Love the auto-dimming rear view mirror, perfect for the person or idiot who doesn't want to dim his lights. Recomended this car too a friend who is considering too look at one....read morehide

- Very good on gas
- sunroof only open 3/4 of the way
This is a very good smooth running car, bought mine in texas and drove home all the way to ILLnois, very comfortable, handles great, and corners like its on rails. I love this car, had a 2005 before I got this one it also handled great, had a accident in this one, and let me tell you folks, this car is built ford tuff. Me and wife hit a guard rail in the rain doing about 70 mph went through miro bust rain storm out of nowhere, car front end was damaged, but still able to drive car after we hit, car still ran great no wobble or anything drove it 5 hours straight to texas after crash, thank-you ford for building such a great car, you saved me and my wife life....read morehide

- Getting 24 mpg city, Attribute this to eliminating fast starts from stops.
- The reset feature for the info screen is near impossible to reach, Ford needs to relocate it.
Very quiet interior, and ride is pretty good too for an SUV and my last car was a 2000 toyota avalon so I have been very impressed. Would be nice to have some other features, i.e. steering wheel controls for the radio. Was used to the keyless funcions in the Avalon, some people don't like that feature, but with as quiet as cars are getting, with pushbutton start/stop you can't try and start the car when it's already running and damaging the starter. Would also be nice if the gas lid was controlled by an inside control. Not that this would stop people from taking gas, but might deter them somewhat.
Regarding the gas mileage, I'm not driving slower, just starting out softer and anticipating stopping by watching further ahead, It's easy to watch if you have the mileage gauge on, you don't have to look at it constantly, though you get to the point of always trying to determine what you can do to improve it.
Bottom line, I economized coming down from the Avalon, it was a great car, but frankly it was boring to drive. The Escape was a true surprise when I test drove it, never thought I would own a domestic car again, and 0% interest put it over others I considered such as the Nissan Rogue, only other contender was the Saturn Vue but their 0% deal came out after I had already made my purchase....read morehide

- Great exterior deisgn. Good cargo area. Plenty of storage area
- Seats not comortable. Rear seat headrest create blind spot when backing
Road noise is unacceptable. Hard to carry on conversation with person in back seat when traveling at highway speeds. Power seats are a joke. Back of seat and bench do not adjust independently. Ride is very choppy and rough. Fuel economy is ok. Anyone interested in this car should first look at Honda CRV. Co-worker has one and is much nicer than Escape....read morehide

- Great MPG! Wonderful Ride! Great Comfoft! Excellent Choice!!!
- Absolutely NONE!!
My wife recently was having minor trouble with her '99 Explorer, and she owed more than I felt it worth. She had previously mentioned the Ford Escape, but I did'nt like its look, that was until I saw the changes made on the '08! I decided to build one online and was very impressed with its looks and price, plus read numerous positive reviews. Yet I was worried about being able to get out from under her explorer payment. So I went to our local Ford dealer (Bedford Ford Lincoln Mercury, in Bedford IN) and told them what I was looking for. They gave me pay off (which I NEVER expected) and drove nearly ten hours to get our Escape. I wanted a silver 4-cylinder, 2wd, but yet I wanted it loaded! Everyone in our area that was loaded in our area was V6 4WD. They went and got it for me! And the look on my wifes face was priceless! Infact our salesman (Roger Pine) even came in on his day off to locate one for us. We have'nt even had this a week and it's getting over 24 MPG! I'm 6'2" tall and have more room upfront than her explorer which was Eddie Bauer and we both believe this Escape has more options, gets way more MPG, and its a 4 cylinder, but I sware it has more get up and go than V-8 F-150! One of the best buys I ever made! Go ahead, drive the other compact SUV's, then drive the Escape! Compare them fully and I think you'll become a Ford Escape owner!...read morehide

- Looking to save money on gas, GET THIS SUV!!!
- trunk space
This is a really good small(1 child, right now anyway) family vehicle. Very inexpiensive, rides very nice. We went from a 05 Trailblazer, which had more trunk space, But i'll sacrifice that for more MPG's any day. Pretty good 4cyclinder engine, has some power with it. You'll definetly like this SUV....read morehide

- Updated look, quiet, adequate options
- Weak acceleration, dash controls poorly placed
This is my second Escape, both are company cars. The 2008 is a huge improvement of the 2005 model in performance, handling, and braking. The steering does not overreact to input and the brakes stop the car straight in panic situatutions. The interior appears slightly larger than the previous model and road/wind noise are greatly reduced. Placement of the dash controls has been changed around. The wipers and the cruise have been moved from the right to the left side of the steering column. The rear wiper switch is difficult to operate and the new radio and HVAC controls are overly complicated. Fuel mileage is about 23MPG with mixed driving, pretty much unchanged. Overall, it is a good value for the money....read morehide
