I bought this vehicle new primarily as a show of support for Ford for not taking the govt bailout. There are a lot of things I like about the Escape. The sync system is great. This was one of the first vehicles to have a USB port built in. The sunroof goes practically from side to side. The exterior appearance is nice. Now for the bad. This vehicle has had so many mechanical issues I will never buy another Escape again. Even the 2013's are still having some issues. The transmission went out after just over a month. Took 6 weeks to fix due to back ordered parts (what does that say)? This was covered by warranty, but still. The tranny also needed to be reprogrammed, another trip to the dealer. Now for the out of warranty repairs. Next up, the a/c condensor failed. Close to $1000 there. Then the electronic power steering assist failed. Another $1400. Then a front axle support bearing. $400 for that. All on a vehicle that is 42 months old. Virtually all of the non-warranty repairs have happened between 100k & 120k miles. So far im out of pocket nearly $3000 and counting, NOT including normal wear & maint. items. Sorry Ford, that's way too many repairs for a 3.5 year old vehicle. I made a huge mistake buying the escape, and with the number of recalls the various escape models have had since, it appears I am not alone....read morehide

I BOUGHT THIS CAR IN SEPTEMBER OF 2009, WHEN WE BOUGHT IT THE SEATS WERE STAINED, THE DEALERSHIP PROMISED TO HAVE THEM CLEANED BUT THEY NEVER COME CLEAN, YOU CAN SPILL WATER ON THE SEATS AND THEY STAIN, THE WINDSHEILD STARTED LEAKING, THE BACK GLASS HAS ALWAYS RATTLED, WHEN I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP THEY WANTED TO "PUT IT ON A MACHINE" TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING THE RACK AND PINIONS HAD TO BE REPLACED, WENT THRU A CAR WASH THE OTHER DAY NOW THE FLOOR BOARDS ARE SOAKING WET. THE TRANSMISSION DOESNT SEEM TO WANT TO SHIFT CORRECTLY IN 1 AND 2 GEAR, THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT STAYS ON BUT NOTHINGS WRONG, THE DEALERSHIP PROMISED TO FIX THE SENSOR BUT HAS NEVER DONE SO. THE CAR IS ESTIMATED TO GET 32MPG BUT I'VE NEVER GOTTEN MORE THAN 22....read morehide

this is our second one, we had the first model out a 2004 and put over 220,000 miles on it and it was still running when we traded it for cash for clunkers last year. we drive our cars until the end.
never had any problem with the first one. and so far so good with this one.
great features. like the gear shift on the floor rather than on the steering column. great improvement over the old model.
we have an exporer too. too large for me for everyday, perfect for my husbands everyday driving.
I love my escape it feels like it was custom built for me. great for any busy mom. plenty of room for cargo and the kids....read morehide1 out of 1 people found this review helpful.

- Pros
- Smooth Transmission, Good power, Great Fuel Economy
- Cons
- too many plastic parts on the inside.
Purchased As New
My last car was a 2002 honda s2000, it was time to upgrade to a family car. I decided to give American cars a chance. And, I could not be happier with the over all quaility of this suv. It has a smooth transmission, and the engine responds well. I am averaging about 25ish mpg so I am happy with the fuel economy. However, Ford needs to get rid of the plastic feel on the inside, and put quality material in the cabin, much like they did with the Fusion....read morehide

- Pros
- Lots of pwr with great gas mileage
- Cons
- only a 17 gal gas tank..needs a 20 for long trips..
Purchased As New
I finally got a vehicle I can use for work and play at the same time. Good on fuel. 23-27 mpg and for work, yet has enough get up and go to pull a 3500lb camp trailer with a fully loaded top rack with no problem,,(with the V6, and 6spd tranny). The sync system from microsoft is easy to use and I dont need a phone doodad hooked to my left ear anymore. Check out the gas cap less fuel tank...No more losing your gas cap cause you don't need one.!! 17inch wheels give it a smooth ride for an SUV, plus a nice clean look to it....You got to get one of these!!!!!!!...read morehide

Purchased a 2009 Escape a few months ago.....It has been so far the best deal ever....quiet ride with 17 inch michs all around. The SYNC system is great!!! no need for a ear bluetooth anymore...the system even response to voice dialing......Capless fuel system, and auto dimming rear mirror, 6 speed auto transmission can gear down like a stick-shift if you wish.....the V6 takes of like a rocket!!..Better hold on to something!!!..this is a great Ford SUV........I will buy another when this one hits about 300,000 miles!!!!!!...Dont believe the bad reviews....BUY THIS SUV!!!!!!!!!...read morehide

- hummmm compared to other ccars, none
- Cons
- don't buy one

it's ok until the warranty runs out then take out a loan. a tune up cost 950 dollars and to add insult to injury my dealer didn't replace the parts he said he did and of course charged for the labor he didn't do. is it no wonder people go to honda and toyota ?

I love the Ford Escape design and I generally like Ford. We own two - the newer F150 and an older Escort. We want to buy the great looking Escape but just can't do it yet. Why won't Ford put in a small diesel engine such as the 2.0L TDI used in the VW 2009 Sportwagon, It has only 140 HP but a wopping 236 ft-lbs of torgue. That's more than the Escape with the V6 and both the Ford and VW are in the range of 3250 lbs curb wt.
I expect such an engine put in the Escape could boost its mileage up to 40 mpg. Let's all write to Ford -- they are doing great but could be even better!!...read morehide7 out of 13 people found this review helpful.

- Pros
- great handling & roomy
- Cons
- Contential tires
Purchased As New
Bought new a little over a year ago I heard loud noise from the tire and I thought it was the wheel baring going bad, however I was told by a Ford Mechanic that the Contential tires that are on all new Ford Escapes do not work well with the escapes heavier frame. It wears the tire unevenly and your stuck with annoying tire noise and load tire noise. Very load drive and the enterior is very basic. Could have put more design into it. Also cheap seat can feel the seats pop from seat....read morehide
