- Handling,Appearance,fuel economy
Well I wrote a review on 02/25/06 and was able to purchase a 2006 EXPLORER XLT in April. A perfect birthday gift. I feel privileged and honored to drive such a luxury SUV. This is my 4th EXPLORER and I am loving every minute of it. I am impressed on how the vehicle hugs the road with my 17 inch tires. FORD made some tremendously great changes and improvements to the 2006. Mine is equipped with SIRIUS and it makes me want to ride all day in the EXPLORER. Jeff KONOWAL of MULLINAX FORD in AMHERST,OH was extrememly helpful and instrumental in getting me in one of these lovely 2006 RED FIRE Explorers. It was my best birthday present one could get themselves!!
My Dad who worked for Ford Casting Plant in Brook Park,OH must have been my Guardian Angel and looking down over me on that great day!!...read morehide

- Lots of safety features
- Too Big, Gas Guzzler
My first ( and last) experience with an SUV! I moved from a pickup to this vehicle and now I am sorry I did so. Not much space to haul anything for such a big vehicle. Terrible on gas too w/a 4.0L V6. I would not have another one.

- Ford has the best looking SUV on the market.
This is a gorgeous SUV, great job FORD!! I currently own a 2003 Explorer 4 X 4 and love it. It is my 3rd Explorer. I hope to get a 2006 Explorer this year. Ford has made some very nice changes.
This SUV looks like a toop of the line luxury SUV, which it is in my mind!! The ride is very quiet and it handles very nice!! Great Job!!
My DAD would be very proud of this since he is in HEAVEN looking over us and retired from FORD'S Brook Park Casting Plant!!!...read morehide

- Excellent ride quality, Good Handling, Build quality & styling, great use of interior space.
- 4.0 V6 does not match the smoothness or power of competitors, interior grab handles mounted too low.
A very stylish design, with plenty of room for it's size, the '06 Explorer is a great choice for anyone that is in the market for a SUV. When compared to other vehicles in this category the Explorer ofers many advantages.
The control placement works well with the exeption of the interior grab handles, which will require some time to adjust to. The quality of the materials used is good, following the format used in new models such as the Mustang and F150.
The leather used does not match the quality used by others such as Honda, but is attractive with a two tone design.
Seating comfort is great. Head-room is fantastic when compared to Chevy's Trailblazer. The reclining second row seats will make long trips a pleasure for back seat pasengers. The tumble fold feature again will require time to adjust to, as it is not as simple to operate as other models.
The optional third row seat is a "must have". This feature is superior to room and function in many full size SUVs. There is ample head room for even my 6'2" frame, and still alows for some cargo space behind it. The "fold-flat" feature gives an advantage is utility when compared to new models such as the '07 Tahoe. All this is thanks to the independant rear suspension that was debate is the previous model.
One area that can be improved is the 4.0 V6 engine. This is a reliable, proven, powerplant, with good overal porformance. However only with only improvements in emisions, it still falls short of General Motors 4.2 inline motor in both power and smoothness....read morehide

- Great value, Roomy, Love the body style and the details in the interior
- I wish it came with more standard features like moonroof or satellite radio
I purchased this car, because well the reputation spoke for itself..the #1 selling SUV. So i took it for a test drive and before i even pressed on the gas i knew this car was for me. I've been in the market for an SUV for a while due to my recent addition of a son. So...was very pleased with the appearance, the ride, and the value. This is a good investment and I don't regret it at all. I will probably be a Ford Explorer owner for years to come....read morehide

- Very Comfortable Ride, Respectable Acceleration, Roomy Interior
- Had to return it to the Rental Car Company
Often we here some experts and consumers criticize the Explorer, but there is a reason it's a best seller over its 15 year history. The Explorer is a good solid SUV that does not try to be anything else. It does what it does well and without a whole lot of drama. If you get bored it has a nice sound system to keep you entertained. Of course the interior is quiet with the sound system off, and you don't hear rattles & clanks because it absorbs bumps well enough so you don't feel them either. The nicely equipped Explorer XLT V6 I had accelerated nicely when merging in to traffic, with decent passing response. No one should not be driving an SUV that fast anyway but the power is there when you need it and the Explorer did not feel as if it was tired or straining under acceleration for a V6. The interior is very roomy and comfortable. I rented the Explorer to help me move into my first apartment and with the 2nd and 3rd row seat folded it swallowed up a lot of stuff, so I got it all done it 2 trips. With the Explorer loaded with my belongings it did not sweat or strain during acceleration. I love the new front end styling with its kind of in-your- face styling. If you are looking for a good solid SUV then check out the newly redesigned Explorer. I did not want to take it back to the Rental Car Company but I had to, so now I am planning to go get my own....read morehide
