2008 Ford Explorer 4X2 User Reviews

- The best Explorer Ford has ever built. I have a 2007 and I love it. You can feel its quality.
- I get 19 MPG over all driving but its worth it to have the room and power.
This is my second Ford Explorer. I loved my first one but my 2007, which is the same design as the 2008, leaves other SUV's wishing they could offer what Ford offers in the Explorer. I have the Limited model with the V-8. If you have never driven one, then you need to drive one to appreciate the quality Ford has put into this model....read morehide

- Very comfortable ride, very easy to handle, quiet ride, good looks
- When the seat is up high and if you are tall, it's easy to hit your head when you enter the vehicle.
I have had it for a month. I bought it because I have been a happy Ford owner in the past and they have the best priced vehicles right now. I am very pleased with the highway mileage (19-22 mpg), but city mileage could be better (14-16 mpg). Rides very well. I am very happy with my purchase.

- Feels very sturdy, handles well.
- MPG, but it's an SUV so really no complaints.
I have a 2007 and I absolutly love it. I have had it about a year now and so far it is my favorite vehicle that I have ever owned. A former VW driver I love the sturdiness. The steering is very firm and overall it has a very solid feeling. Plus and excelant turn radias. It turns on a dime. No need for 3 pt. turns hardly at all. In all reality it drives more like a car. The door handles are unique too. I read some reviews where ppl complained about them, but I like them. I like the onboard diagnositcs in the dash board as well. Right after I bought the car I was constantly telling all my passengers how cold it was. I only have 2 wd, but it still handles very well in snow. Took it up to big bear and it handled the curves like a pro. I am very happy with my selection....read morehide

- Interior Space, Ride and Comfort, Appearance
- Glare on windshield from dash.
I test drove the Explore XLT on a Friday night. Loved the vehicle and bought it. I had LoJack put on so I couldn't pick up the vehicle until late Saturday afternoon. Drove it home. The next day Sunday, I drove it to work and back and had a major problem with the glare. Ford has put a silver / chrome looking trim around the a/c - heat ducts and also the gauge section of the dashboard. On a sunny day the light reflects off of the dashboard and imprints it on the windshield. No matter what direction I was driving, I couldn't get rid of the glare and imprint on the windshield. For me it was a major distraction looking through the windshield to drive and seeing the dashboard on the windshield all the time. It was annoying, distracting, and I think dangerous. I took it back to the dealership on Monday and switched to an Escape. For anyone considering the 2008 Explorer, I suggest test driving it in the afternoon on a sunny day. If I had test driven it in the afternoon, I wouldn't have bought it in the first place. I have driven over 40 years and have never had this problem with any of the vehicles I've purchased. The vehicle is fabulous except for this one problem, but it was enough of a problem to stop me from buying it. Thank goodness for a great dealership who worked with me to change out the vehicles....read morehide

- Looks good, drives smooth on highway
- Very poor interior design for comfort. Lack's many quality design features.
Amazing USA car maker can't get same creature comfort engineering design as non-USA guys. Cheap reaps from this car, like power seat rails exposed; plastic chrome wheels vs aluminum; no 2d seat middle armrest; very small glove compartment; loud horn sound when locking via key fob; very few utility compartments to put needed things; rear hatch window unlocks but does not pop fully open to allow ease of putting groceries/golf clubs, etc.; rear hatch door hard to manually open. All in all, will probably get rid of this poorly designed car within one year. V-8 MPG 16 on interstate. Stupid me!...read morehide
