2006 Ford Explorer 4X4 User Reviews
XLT 4.6L shown
- $8,078 - $10,508
- Trans, Nav, Seats, Quiet, 18 inch wheels
- fuel, fit and finish, too much plastic
I was about to get the '05 and I am glad I waited. It is very quiet witl little or no rattles thanks to the new fram. People are complaining about the tranny, but I was pleasantly surprised by how smooth and precised it is. I normally do not like Ford Trannies, but I am very happy with this new 6 speed. So far, I must say the SUV surpassed my expectaions. The interior, new 18 inch wheels, better seats and leather, 6 speed tranny and over all quiet ride make this the best explorer ever. I say great job!...read morehide

- much better fuel economy, cleaner, and much more enjoyable/car-like ride.
Ford has waited long enough to put out a good explorer, thank God its finally here. Fun to drive, better seats, and they finally put those power-fold seants inside.

I had bought the car 4 month back overall its a good car but the AC are totally unacceptable its too noisy even you put it on the lower fan as well I had complained that the switch is not functioning properly as nothing will change if you change between the dash board air circulation and foot air circulation always the air come on your foot whish makes me a real pain in my foot and when I complain to the dealer it was an easy answer wrong manufacturing and nothing could be done. As well after I drive the car 10000Klm I start to hear noise in the dash board coming out from the AC when I put it on or off as well the answer was we will repair it for you but we need to get the parts now over one and half month nothing been done still waiting to get my car repair, imagine that minor problem was not found by the company and the dealer just try to get read of repairing the mal manufacturing by saying its mal manufacturing by Ford Company...read morehide

- improved center console shifter
- bad transmission
I bought this 06 2 weeks ago. It is a fully loaded limited to replace my 03 limited. Both have v-8's but the 06 has the new 6 speed transmission.
I bought this from a dealer who happens to be good friends for over 20yrs.
The car has been in the shop (and is there now) for a total of 4 days so far. The transmission shifts awful and hesitates when trying to pull out.
They have found 3 others on their lot that have the same problem so far and are trying their best to get an answer from ford.
For a new explorer that listed at over $44,000 this is unacceptable in my opinion.
Ford really needs to get thier act together.
They've already had to buy back one of my 03's for an electrical problem that they finally figured out after myself and the service manager told them when it was happening adn the specific's of the malfunction.
The only reason I bought another one is that the dealer is second to none as far as service goes, I DON"T BLAME THE DEALER!...read morehide

- Good looks and value for SUV
- Auto shifting is unsure and rough into high gears
Ford needs to make a correction in it's 4X4 selection location.
This is my third XLT since 1997 and all have the same location problem which I've previously advised Ford.
They need to move the selection to the drivers left side of steering wheel and away from the passenger side.
These can easily be mistaken for radio or air / heat selection at night time by passengers.
Ford needs to start listening to it's customers requirements or accept their movement to other manufacturers....read morehide
