For some reason critters, (squirrels) have been attracted to underneath the vehicle. This has caused me hardship as the critters have chewed a small hole thru the vapor hose from the gas tank which is a $500.00 job to repair. I've only had the car 2 months and it only has 3000 miles. Freedom Ford, for Clearwater Florida would not do anything to lower the labor as the part to repair was only $95.00. I will not deal with that dealership again. Very disappointed. If this can happen to me once, it can happen again. None of my neighbors have ever experience anything like this. I don't live in a critters invested area and my vehicle doesn't sit in one place for very long. My name is Dean Martin

- Great fuel economy, car-like ride, roomy back seat
- Slow to accelerate
The first thing you'll notice is that the Explorer Sport Trac is actually a Crew Cab Ranger and not an Explorer hybrid. The truck bed of the Sport Trac is extremely versitile. With the optional tonneau cover (highly recommended), you can pack your gear and groceries without fear of them getting exposed to the weather. And, you can also haul things you could never fit in your SUV such as wood and furniture. The interior is spacious as compared to a small/mid-size SUV, but not quite as roomy as a full size SUV. The 4L V6 has delivered 19-21 MPG, which is significantly higher than any other mid-size SUV I've ever owned. It is slow to accelerate from 0-35, but offers a lot of top end speed. It is not as nimble as a small SUV in parking lots, but it is not difficult to park. It rides more like a car and is comfortable on long road trips. The electric rear window is a must have option. The stock stereo won't win any awards, but it is better than Ford stereos of the past. If you like it loud, get the Audiophile stereo, it is worth the extra money. The interior is rather lush as compared to the competition and the sporty exterior just plain looks good....read morehide

- Like the looks, and the small pick-up bed is very convenient
- At 3,000 had transmission problems, headlights failed twice
Had total transmission replaced at 30,000, after 2 rebuilds. Have gone through 3 sets of catalytic converters, new CD, new paint, and headlights failed twice going down the road at night (real fun). Ford has trouble supporting transmission replacement parts. Has been in the shop 3 times for a total of over 18 weeks on transmission work -- awaiting parts....read morehide

- Decent Fuel Economy, Sharp looking, lots of space, great family vehicle
- Steering is a little sensitive for those not use to driving larger vehicles
I purchased the Ford Explorer Sport Trac XLT Premium edition. I have done lots of research on these vehicles for over a year. When I finally got the opportunity to buy one and I found a great deal I jump at the opportunity.
Lets start with the pro's. I could not list them all above but I will try to post them all here. Believe me there are a many. First off the Sport Trac sports a 22.5 gallon fuel tank. While most people think they are getting such great gas mileage its only because you are putting more gas in it. I felt the same way I first, but when I had to put nearly $50 of gas in it I found out why the mileage was so good. Its just more.
This truck absolutly looks great no matter who drives it. The tinted glass, the bed cover which comes in handy for me, the running boards, WOW it really looks sweet. I was leaning towards the silver but the best deal was for a stone gray color. All of the colors look great its just your personal preference. The XLT sports great looking tires and rims. The fog lights also are very appealing. Let me talk about the fog lights for a minute. I had a 200 s-10 before I purchased this vehicle. It also had fog lights but when I turned them on I saw very little difference in lighting. With this truck you can surely see a huge difference. Maybe it was just because I am sitting 3 foot higher in the air now than before when driving the s-10.
The next thing I would like to mention is the space that this truck has in it. 5 people can sit comfortably. Naturally 2 in the front and 3 in the back. There is a 60-40 split in the rear. It is however difficult to keep pulling carseats in and out of the vehicle. For someone with infants I would suggest a car.
Other notables about this vehicle (XLT Premium) are the heated seats and power windows and doors. While it is nearly June I have not had the opportunity to use the heated seats. However, the back sliding limosine style back glass is remarkable. I love this feature. Keyless entry is also a plus. Never again do I have to worry about locking my keys inside the truck. Also I do not want to leave out the power side mirrors. This also is a great feature that works perfectly.
I have driven a chevy s-10 for 5 years. When I plopped into the seat of the sport trac I saw a difference in the handleing immediately. It was a little sensitive and felt top heavy. I was actually scared to go around curves I knew like the back of my hand because I felt the vehicle was going to roll onto its side. After a week of driving I am getting use to the sensitivity and learning that I might not be able to take turns as fast as I could with other vehicles. Thus far I have very few complaints. But if I had to be picky I could say something like the truck doesn't have as much power as one would like. It is a 4.0 v6. You cant ask for it all....
Thanks for reading and I hope I helped someone....read morehide

- Fuel economy is okay for a midsize truck, styling is excellent. Qualify of the truck overall seems t
- Still not use to the plastic bed, but it looks great and is very functional. Door handles need beef
I just purchased a 2005 XLT premium, with a moon roof, Oxford white. By far its the most stylish of all the vehicles I looked at and the compact size of the truck sold me. I was seriously considering the Chevy Avalanche but it was just too large of a vehicle. I also love the 360 visibility literally no blind spots. My Sport Trac is fun to drive, meets my needs and is very stylish. I do wish there was more substance to plastic bed but it seems very durable. Some road noise compared to my previous vehicle, Chevy Tahoe, but I am happy with my decision to purchased the Sport Trac....read morehide
