- Pros
- Great mileage(21cty,26 hwy) no roadnoise, super comfortable seats (cloth),lots of leg-room
- Cons
- With economy comes an expected loss of performance-altho adequate.
Purchased in Aug 07 for $24K (more-less standard equip except for an engine block heater). Purchased from a small-town Ford dealership in Augusta Kansas-dealership found it @ a Minnesota Ford Dealership-so they shipped to Augusta, KS and car had 2 miles on the odometer. I wanted a "road car" that will handle frequent trips from Kansas to New Mexico,Texas,Arizona&Montana year-round. Currently have 18,186 miles and no problems-oil changes every 3k and tire rotation every third oil change. Can easily drive 12-14 hr days in this car and not feel beat-down. Standard sound system (CD) is pretty good and will get those rumbling bass notes captured really well (4-1/2 bars on the volume). Great car on snow-pack, and does very well on ice. I have chains, but haven't had to use them, and from what I've experienced, probably won't have to use them. The AWD is great with the traction control engaged. I took my car to WalMart early one icy morning after my Starbucks stop, and tested the handling and stopping on ice...WAY TO GO FORD!!!!! They have it right folks....read morehide

- Pros
- our's is a 2005 and this one of the best cars ford has ever designed 35000 miles and still going.
- Cons
- huh? none after 2 years- was a leftover 2005- no complaints- love awd
this car is mainly driven by my significant other and she drives it everyday. the car has 35000 miles on it and has never missed a beat. she drives 35 miles one way, to and from work and most of that is two lane and interstate, so we drive in alot of snow. the automatic awd is perfect for her. she wouldn't trade this car for anything. she drove a suzuki gran vitra before the 500 and just fell in love with this car. keep up the good work and BRING BACK THE LIGHTNING...read morehide

- Pros
- Rides smooth, lots of options, gages easy to read
- Cons
- Road noise, transmission was choppy, not enought leg room, exeleration sluggish
Not impressed at all!! From the beggining the door handles were loose on the inside. Ride is fairly smooth, get up and go was pretty sluggish. Had the car for the day and the gas milage was not good. I think it was more like 16-20 mpg. going up hill the transmission was rough and choppy and shifted gears alot. Road noise was bad on the highway. Not a car for tall people, withthe seats back my legs still hit the dash board. Steering was not as responsive as advertised. Guess the TV commerials hype the car way to much. At the end of the day I was did not buy the car. Ford still has a long ways to go and the transmission was a big problem....read morehide

- Pros
- Awesome on Gas, Very Comfortable & Roomy, such a smooth drive,
- Cons
- back air vents should have there own controls, other than that can't find any just yet.
Purchased vehicle 1 wk ago and totally satisfied and happy with my five hundred....I went from a Jeep Wrangler to a Ford Five Hundred and fell in love with the smoothness and comfortable drive it has.. and the space wow...so much room!!!..was a back passenger on a trip for over and hour and was completely satisfied with everything, except the back air vents wished they had there own controls, but you can't have everything....Really loved and would recommend to anyone....We never thought we'd go back to a car and when I test drove my car, first thing I noticed is to get in you don't have to squat or feel like your picking yourself up from the floor to get out..its a pretty good height for being a car...I was sold when I noticed that. M husband was sold for the smoothness and the awesome drive it has. The only con my husband has is...the brake/gas pedals and steering wheel is to hard???? Since I drive the car more...to me there perfectly fine........read morehide

- Pros
- CVT Transmission, Responsive and confident ride and handling, Seating Position, Interior Room
- Cons
- Ford is renaming it the TARUS!!! Front end styling, could use mud flaps
I love my car! 27 months and 96,000 miles!!!, 65,000 miles on OE tires!! The only major maintenance item was replacement of the rear brakes at about 60,000 miles. I am in sales and use this car to cover my territory, including cold weather areas such as Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ontario and Quebec. The 500's CVT and AWD powertrain performs masterfully on snow and ice!!!!
I had owned Volvo 760's and always adored Volvo's upright seating - for long trips they are a blessing. I have made 10 - 12 hour trips in my 500 with minimal seat-fatigue. The problem with the driving position is that I usually don't stop enough because I am comfortable and alert.
I love the 500's size for passengers and cargo. We have carried bicycles for vacation, coolers, luggage, sales samples and literature, people - all handled very well.
For it's size, I have found my 500 to be suprisingly quick. I end up "shifting" into L from D(high torque, high speed) on the transmission regularly, for crisp acceleration. At road speed, I can pass anything!
I know some folks gripe about the transmission's "hesitation". I have come to appreciated it - it is akin to drawing out the elastic on a slingshot right before the CVT slings you around whatever it is you wish to pass. In real time, even with the percieved hesitation, I'll still beat your non-hesitant gear jumper anyday!
I drive my car hard too - The CVT and AWD combination makes hard driving on curvy roads safe and fun.
Some may say the sytling is bland, I had the same opinion when the 500 was first released. Now after 2 years, I really have come to appreciate it's lines (except for the front grill). It has a wide, stable stance, and it's lines project a powerful presence from front to back. For some, Ford's plagiarism of other Euro-automaker's designs become obvious when you mistakenly walk up on a Audi A6 (roof line) or Mercedes (tail lights) when searching for your car in a parking lot.
When I travel I rent other cars, Camrys, Impalas, Magnums, Towncars, 300s. I am always pleased when I return to get back into my 500. In my opinion, the new Camry comes the closest to featuring what I enjoy about my 500 (eurodesign, handling, room, comfort) but in not nearly as "snappy" as my 500. The Magnums, 300s and Impalas all have power to spare, but the 300/Magnums do not use it nearly as well with their handling and the constant shifting of the Impala got on my nerves.
I am not due for another vehicle for at least the next 12 months, but when I am, I am choosing another 500 AWD....read morehide15 out of 15 people found this review helpful.
