I drove this as a rental car and absolutely loved it. By far the most comfortable care I've ever been in! Great acceleration, roomy, roomy roomy, however if this makes sense-it doesn't feel like you are driving such a large vehicle. OMG I am in love with this and thinking of every reason I can to purchase one....read morehide

- Pros
- Great versatility. Great people and cargo hauler. Rides very nice and quiet and has a quality feel

I have had the car for 7 months and have put nearly 15,000 miles on it. As a tall, larger person, I really like the room and the comfortable seating positions. My only complaint is that I wish the seatbealt position on the door post was higher so that the seatbelt was a more comfortable. We have a number of children and grandchildren and we can transport a lot of them in relative comfort. We have the base model and I was very impressed with the standard equipment. In no way does this car feel like a base model car. I've been driving for over 40 years and the Flex is quickly becoming my favorite car....read morehide

- Cons
- occasional rough shifts in slow-moving traffic

Hands-down the best vehicle I've had! Great for families, ample cargo space, and excellent quality. I get tons of people asking how I like it and I cannot tell them enough that I LOVE it! Does great in all weather, comfy on 12-hour-plus trips, USB port lets you plug in an iPod and then use voice commands to control it (or your bluetooth phone!) This car is made of awesome and has a stylish, retro look that is definitely a huge part of the appeal....read morehide

- Pros
- Luxury ride, handling, accomodations, electronics
- Cons
- polarizing exterior styling, parking lots
Purchased As New
Needed a family vehicle with usable 3rd row to replace a Volvo XC70. Looked at Highlander, Audi Q7, Buick Enclave, Acura MDX, Lexus GX. And then the Ford. Say no more. Drove it and bought it - it was the clear winner of this bunch. Have had it 8 months now and do not have a single complaint except that, being a looong vehicle, it can be challenging in tight parking lots (hey - it's a family truckster). As for the pluses:
Interior: This is what sold us. Tasteful, clean styling; serene at speed, excellent Sony surround sound system (and I'm a stickler), state-of-the-art nav/Sync system - if you've seen it in action or read professional reviews, you know how well it works. The 3rd row is easy to access and comfortable for adults - you can easily converse with front seat without yelling/ straining to hear (see Ride). Seats down, plenty of room to move whatever.
Ride: Smooth as silk; luxury ride, plain and simple (suspension in EcoBoost model is different than standard engine). The seating is like your living room, with nice contrast-stitched, perforated leather.
Handling/Acceleration: We opted for the EcoBoost engine as there is a big difference in refinement compared to the base engine (drove both). Hard to believe an engine can motivate this much car so effortlessly. Handling is car-like: a real pleasure to drive.
Exterior style is definitely polarizing - I happen to like it, but am not surprised by those who think it's downright ugly. It's not like anything else on the road, but people who get it, get it - Other Flex owners have stopped us and said "Don't you love it?"
In sum: if you can get past it's controversial exterior styling and non-luxury nameplate, you will be richly rewarded with a family mover that is functional, comfortable, and a real pleasure to drive around in. It's our first Ford (in fact our first American car), but if this is an indication of the quality of the rest of their line-up, not likely our last. Living in a land of Lexuses, Benz's and BMWs, I feel like we're in on a little secret......read morehide2 out of 2 people found this review helpful.

This is an excellent family car. I was thinking about a minivan, but FORGET that.... The Ford Flex is where its at. Exterior/Interior, Flex has it all.

After 2 months of research to replace my wrecked Honda Accord 4dr due to an accident, it came down to the Honda Pilot, GMC Terrain, and the Ford Flex.(Test drove all 3 vehicles) Cons about the Honda is that although it seats 8, they're all cramped up in the back. GMC on the other hand, although it gets better gas milage than the Flex is that it only seats 5. Might as well get a car. Flex became an easier choice due to having the capability to seat 7 full sized adults comfortably in long road trips. The 3.5L V6 is gentle and is easy on the acceleration. The power is there when you need it. The ride comfort is by far the best one I've been in. It is not too soft and definately not rough. I've had a Merc E-Class in the past and I thought that rode best on the road but this by far with it's low stance is better. The ride is very quiet even when driving on graveled roads. The navigation system w/ Microsoft SYNC is great and easy to use. You get to see live traffic, sports scores/schedules, weather forecasts, movie times/locations. MPG wise I'm doing 19.5-23mpg. Initially I was only doing 16mpg, but once I put 1000 miles on it...it got better. The interior detailing is excellent. Wood trims, very comfortable seats from the leather.
The only thing I'd doc on this vehicle would be the transmission. It sometimes it gets confused and can't make up its mind whether to upshift or down shift when overtaking on the freeway. It takes about 1 second to calculate on what to do. But I think it does this so it maintains the smoothness of the ride and not just jerk you as you accelerate. After it's done calculating and picks a gear, it accelarates very smoothly. The exterior looks of this flex is not for every one. Its boxy and its retro. It looks smaller than most SUV/crossovers. But it's 17 feet long, seats 7 w/ lots of room, and the 2nd and 3rd row seats fold flat if you wanna haul and occasional cabinet or couch. whats not to love!!!...read morehide0 out of 0 people found this review helpful.

Rented one in Minnesota last week for a 200 mile business trip. Performs OK on dry pavement. AWD is a joke in a few inches of snow or slush. Traction control tends to size up when stressed. Comfortable though - big plus if you need to wait for roadside assistance for a while. Buy one if you're not planning on driving in adverse road conditions....read morehide

Went looking for a real station wagon and there are only two, Mercedes Benz E Class and the VW Jetta Sport Wagon. One too expensive and the other too small.
Ride and comfort are great. Love the retro wagon look from the mid 60's with smoothed off lines. Performance of the SHO EcoBoost engine and transmission is unbelievable for this size car. So far (20k miles) absolutely no problems NOR delivery defects. AWD in the snow is fantastic. Automated traction control is one of the smoothest I've ever encountered. My other car is a Ford F350 for hauling big items and the trailer.
The biggest thing is THE WIFE LOVES IT....read morehide0 out of 0 people found this review helpful.

Ford really blew it on the design this time around. It's the ugliest car I have seen in years. My neighbor bought one and has had nothing but trouble with it and regrets buying it now. I wouldn't be caught dead in this car.
