I never owned one of these but drove a friend's on a cross-country road trip. We traveled from the West Coast to the Gulf Coast , and took turns driving.
The Focus was a black ZX3, and really sporty. Cool gearshift knob, gauges, and stereo. Plus, the car was more comfortable than most subcompacts I've driven. Plenty of hp and torque to quickly get up to interstate crusing speed.
The only real downside was the fuel economy. A car like the one my friend owned only got 25-30 mpg. Considering it did not have AC and was equipped with the 5-spd MT, that seemed low. Toyota and other manufacturers make similar models that get better fuel economy.
That being said, Ford was one of the only big 3 automakers that did not require bailout-they seem to have really improved their car line recently. The new Focus should be even better than this model and get better fuel economy....read morehide
