2005 Ford Focus

- audiophile radio, mpg, comfort
- remote trunk release, zx4 ST not offered w/ automatic trans
I bought my 2005 focus in February. For the most part I like this car. the size is perfect for me. The acceleration is just as good as the v6 F150 I traded in. I think the car has enough pep, but if I could afford it I would get a turbocharger for the extra kick in the pants. I think the styling has improved greatly from the previous year. The audiophile radio is almost as good as the aftermarket system I had in my truck. I wish I could get just a tad bit more bass f/ the subwoofer. I get 28-30 mpg highway. I would recommend others to buy this car. The mazda 3 is a more attractive car but I liked the test drive in the focus so much that I never went to the mazda dealership.
My gripe is the dealership I bought it from. The sales manager was pushy and intimidating and the detail dept stole some of the aftermarket electronics out of my truck. I have been back to the service dept atleast once every week or two. Nothing mechanically major, just a modern convenience that is not working. The trunk will not open more than half the time when using the dash button or remote - I believe this is a dealer caused problem not factory. I will be going back for the 5th time next week over the trunk issue. I have already complained to Ford's customer service over my sales experience and will be complaining about service next. The service dept however has been really nice, but this issue needs to be resolved.
I plan on trading this car in when my warranty is up for a 05 mustang or escape, depends on gas prices and my money situation. but I will be taking my business to the dealership I should of went to in the first place....read morehide

- Great looks, great price and very fun to drive!
- Interior noise could be a little better
I reciently was involved in a traffic collision in my 2003 Focus ZX3. It was a front end collision and both air bags deployed. My car was totalled, but I walked away from the accicent without any serious injury. What did I do when the car was paid off by the insurance company....I bought another Focus, of course!!! I love the car that much!!! I got a 2005 ZX4 SES. It is a GREAT car. I would buy another one! The car has been improved for 2005, plus the incentives were very good. This is an awesome car that is also fun to drive and it won't break the bank!...read morehide

- good mpg, adequate oin-ramp accel. fantastic comfort, good looks
- latest models removed most of the cons, a little pricey for nicer versions
Enjoy the larger gas tank (hence greater range) on the 2005, shared grill with big brother 500, better and more stylish headlamps, tachometer on the SES. The focus has better than expected back seat room, wide back doors and fold-down seats in case you miss your station wagon. My 2002 SE Wagon had a terrible cheap-car monotone horn, 2005 features Cadillac two-note horn. Gas cap is quick release and the door is a lot easier to open than the 2002. I did 20,000 per year, mostly interstate and the mileage was always a predictable 30+ mpg. Comfort is great, it's easy to get in and out of ... when your feet hit the ground your knees aren't about your head like a Neon or Sentra and others. Seats offer great side-to-side stability and you can actually rest your head on the head rest while awake. Very, very reliable transportation, though the brakes ate the rotors by 35,000 miles, pads never needed replaced through 60,000.... maybe just my bad luck, or too-hard brake pads....read morehide

- Looks good, good comfort in cockpit, ok in power dept.
- $17K for a rattle trap!! Fuel door broke 10 min after we bought it.
Wow!! Our third Ford in 4 years (WE DRIVE A LOT) and was hoping that this one would be a lot of fun. Instead this was a peice of junk!! I think it was bonded with glue and it just started to fall a part. Fuel door fell off within 10 min of when we got it. It took them 2 months to get the part, paint it, and install it right the third time?! We were so mad about this junker that we traded it in within 6 months of ownership for an X-Terra. Much better product THANK YOU!!!!!
We will be hard pressed to buy another Ford vehicle ever again....read morehide

- Updated Styling, Improved Horsepower, Ford Quality
- Suspension sometimes jumpy
We liked our 2003 Focus so well, we updated to a 2005. Some of the changes between the two are obvious, of course. The styling is cleaner and not as trendy as even the earlier model. The engine accelerates better thanks to its increased horsepower and torque. The ride is noticeably quieter and less harsh when hitting bumps. Steering is now much more accurate and responsive. However, I do notice that the car jumps when I hit some bigger bumps. I'm not sure whether the low-profile tires on the ZX4 SES have anything to do with this. I'm hardly qualified to review this car yet, since it's only 3 days old, but I'll be sure to update this review in a few months.
With our 2003, we had only very minor problems in two years. One of the problems was with the trunk latch. Another was with the center console. Probably the most annoying problem we had with the 2003 was that the engine died a few times while idling in cold weather. The dealer never could figure that one out. We've been buying Fords for 17 years and the seemingly minor problems with the 2003 Focus just reinforce the notion that we'll probably keep buying them. Even when we do have problems, the dealer always takes care of us....read morehide

- Great Fuel economy....lots of features
- could have a little more get up and go
This car is a great value. You get decent horsepower for a 4 cyl. I have a loaded ZX4 SES and im very happy. If your in the market for a small, gas saving car the Focus is your car.
