- horrible gas mileage, rust issues with 2002 model, goes through tires
Probably the worst investment I've ever made. The only good thing about the car is the ride, it's got some nice seats. Other than that, I don't recommend this vehicle to anyone..especially the 2002 model. All the doors have rusted, one door is completely rusted shut. Currently, I am getting 19 miles per gallon in town and hwy about 23 at the most. I've had it in over 5 times to get it checked out!! Definitely an unhappy customer!!...read morehide

Ford always make their problems, your problems! They will rip you off! Don't buy from Ford. Brakes, roters, and tires at 16,000 miles!!! Go somewhere else for a car!

We are very disappointed with our focus. We have to change our tires every 15-20 thousand miles. The tires wear diagonally which causes the car to shake. Firestone says its fords fault ford blames firestone. I pay 130 per tire all the time. I have found other people with the same problem. The specs have been changed and it still happens. Now im stuck with a car that shakes severely and cost more in tires than the whole car cost....read morehide

- Handling, turning radius, sound system, visibility, cargo capacity, styling, rear wiper.
- Gas pedal & brake too close for big feet. Fuel milage. No daytime running lights.
Leased this vehicle because I was tired of using my Toyota Solara as a truck and can't stand SUV's. I am not dissappointed except for fuel milage but I don't drive it on long trips. Love the tilt & telescope steering wheel, I'm 6' 3". You don't feel like you're in a compact vehicle, seating is comfortable and high. It's considerably quieter for a four than I expected. I have no problem accelerating to interstate speeds and the car holds the road very well. I like the cargo space cover and the hatch opens high enough so I can stand under it without banging my head. At first the brake pedal seemed soft but that just took some getting used to. Power steering is a bit stiff. AC fine. After the all leather Solara interior I don't feel the Focus interior is all that bad, what do you expect for this price range?
My biggest problem is hitting the gas and brake pedal at the same time, that can be unsettling. My feet or shoes are just too big and this IS a compact so I'm retraining my feet.
The car is fun to drive and while I do hear one mysterious noise I expect that to be resolved at the first service....read morehide

- comfortable ride, quiet interior, great ac, super cd/mp3 player, good acceleration
- some tire noise, no rear disc brakes, no standard abs
We bought this car and traded in a 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis. Rides and drivers better than the Mercury! Very comfortable seats and we have found it to be quieter than the Mercury. Fit and finish is great and a surprising lack of squeeks and rattles. Only complaint: no traction control and no abs....read morehide

- The Looks - Inside and out
- See Below - way too many
I bought this 2005 ZX5 SES in late 2004 and I'm close to sell it!
What's wrong? Never went over 20 mpg city driving, lousy breaks, loud engine, slow interior heating, lack of accelerating power.. should I continue? The worst is that after I saw the new 2005 European Focus I began to think the American consumer is treated by the American car companies like... well, you name it....read morehide

- smooth ride, roomy, good cornering, 5 cup holders, stock 6 disc mp3 player
- bad fuel mileage for small 2.0, poor acceleration, many mystery noises
CONS: My biggest over-all complaint is I dont feel this car is built for the long haul (like some 200,000+ mile asian cars I have had in the past) but I guess I knew that before I bought the car. I always read about great fuel mileage this car gets, but I dont get it. I average 26 mile per and have never came close to 30+ mpg.My ride to work is 10 minutes and the cars heat system finally gets the car warm when I pull in the parking lot. I bought this car partly to support American jobs but I learned after the fact the the final assembly for this car was in Mexican. Good one Ford!
PROS: 5 cup holders, the 6 disc mp3 is nice, handling is crisp (for the most part), nice tall seating posistion.

- Looks, Versatility, Ride, Handling, Economy
- Road Noise, Engine Coarseness, Interior Style & Plastic Trim
First the Compaints:
After putting 800 miles I have become a little dissapointed with the coarse sound of the engine (2.0 Duratec PZev Automatic) and lackadaisical acceleration. Although adequate it would be nice to have a more exciting engine in a car with such good handling. The Engine has the well Known Inline 4 buzz to it. Wood chippers sound more refined but the sound is muted.
The interior is also very uninspiring in that the plastic is cheap looking, The instrument panel looks like the same one in every other car I see with a semi circular instrument section and square center stack. Hello, Is there any individual thought in the auto industry? The seat material has a waxy feel and appears slightly cheap.
Road noise is excessive on certain surfaces also.
Now The Good Part:
But the Focus is also very roomy and comfortable for a compact car. It rides smoother and is more comfortable most intermediates!
The roominess is deceiving, View out the front is good with the high drivers position.
Handling is crisp. The turn in to a corner is sharp and once in a corner the car requires no correction.
With the rear seats folded this car can carry a lot of stuff, although with the Audiophile Sound system the subwoofer takes up a lot of space in the hatch area. I would not have gotten this option had I known that. I like the space more than Acid Rock at 140 decibels!
The Styling of the ZX5 is the most attractive of the Focus lineup....read morehide
