Traded my gas-hog Grand Cherokee two weeks ago for a new '06 Fusion SE. I looked for quite a while but was turned off by alot of the "cookie cutter" looking cars being produced today. I was pleasantly surprised when I accidentally stumbled upon the Fusion. It's European exterior caught my eye first. Then, when I drove it, I was immediately impressed with the exterior size. I am 6'2" and 240 lbs so I have a hard time fitting into most mid-sized cars. I had no problem fitting into the Fusion (the electric seats on the driver side certainly helped). Because they are so popular, the dealership had to find one in a rural MO town and have it driven up to KC. So, after waiting 2 days, my new Fusion was delivered. The first week, I got over 26 miles per gallon when my wife drove it while was out of town. She has no problem with the manual shifting. This week, while I have been driving it, the gas mileage has gone down to about 23 miles per gallon so far (hey, I enjoy hearing the revving of the engine:-). We have only filled the tank once so far, while getting about 425 miles to the tank. My Jeep would have had me filling up twice already in the same amount of miles! I think the savings alone in gas will make the Fusion a winner and the fact that it is fun to drive make it even better. Being in sales, I need trunk space for samples. The back seats conveniently pop down when a button is pushed from the trunk so I can easily get my samples in and out. I have been stopped on the street by people asking me what kind of car it is and how much they like the styling. My gearhead friends are impressed with the mechanics. Of course, no problems the first two weeks mechanically. Only time will tell if it is all they say it is.
