I drive an Acura TL and was given a 2010 Fusion SEL I4 while my car was being repaired from an accident. Having owned a TL and Accord, I admit I have been loyal to Honda, particularly after owning two Nissans that disappointed me. I have never been particularly interested in American cars but knew that Ford was making some noise so I was curious to see how the Fusion would do. This car is impressive. I was amazed by the amount of interior and trunk space. The I4 was responsive and peppy. The cabin was quiet at highway speeds and delivered a comfortable ride. I'm not a fan of the CVT either, but it was silky smooth. Most impressive was the number of features. The SEL was loaded! It even increased or lowered the radio volume based upon driving speeds/noise level. This was a favorite. There is a lot of plastic but the interior still felt decent and well packaged. The handling was ok but softer than I prefer, particularly around corners. This is where the FWD Fusion can be improved. I'd like a stiffer, more sporty ride similar to what I got from the Accord. During my 33 mile one-way commute, I yawned repeatedly during the week because the ride felt boring at times during cruising...a little disengaging but not a deal-breaker. The bottom line is, the Fusion is actually a good car. It can definitely compete with the Altima, Camry and Accord and may be the best value if Ford can get the transmission problems fixed. It looks decent too, although you won't be turning many heads. The true test of the Fusion's fate is going to be it's reliability. If it can be as reliable as the Accords and Camries, Ford may have a winner on it's hands. If you're in the market for a mid-size family car, the Fusion is definitely worth considering.
