Great Gas Mileage!!! I have owned a Toyota Camry Hybrid for four years. After owning the 2013 Fusion Hybrid for about a month, I have discovered that the 2013 Fusion SE Hybrid is capable of things that the older Toyota system simply cannot do. This is not to say that the Toyota Camry Hybrid is not a good product, but when compared to the 2013 Fusion SE Hybrid, it seems like Ford has raised the bar. For instance, when driving at 60 MPH on a US Highway type road, the engine cycles on and off and about 50% of the drive ends up being in EV only mode. The cyclic operation of the engine occurs mainly to keep the hybrid battery charged. Since the operation of the transmission is so smooth, this is hard to detect unless one utilizes the computer displays to see how the computer is controlling the engine, the electric motor, and the hybrid battery. There is a another really neat feature called EV+. EV+ basically uses GPS data to memorize frequently traveled routes. When the computer recognizes that the car is traversing one of these routes, it specifically controls the engine, the electric motor, and the hybrid battery to maximize the efficiency of the drive (under ultimate control of the driver). Since I have learned to use the instrumentation, and since I am an experienced hybrid driver, I am getting very close to the advertised mileage in a combination of highway and city driving. Last tank of gas in combined highway/city driving was 46 MPG.
