- Great power, fabulous shaker hood, eye-catching looks, very good clutch, excellent exhaust note.
- Poor seatbelt retractors
Purchased As Used
I bought this car used with just over 8,000 miles on it. The shaker hood is the main attraction of this beautiful Mustang. From the driver's seat, the view over the power dome and shaker hood is a visual feast. Seeing that shaker dance and twitch with a slight blip of the throttle is so cool. Lifting the hood to reveal the hole in the hood and the shaker hood sitting on top of the engine is a guilty pleasure when showing the car off.
The Mach 1 has a great exhaust note and a very responsive engine to supply more power than most people will ever need. (310 hp/ 320 torque) Horsepower and torque numbers almost seem conservative)The 32 valve V8 redlines around 6800, so this is a V8 that can be wound up a bit. A burst of power comes on just over 4,000 rpms that really puts you back in your seat. The temptation to show that usable power is extremely tempting. The shift action is easy and accurate. The clutch has a gradual and easy to moderate engagement. It is an easy car to shift manually.
The leather bucket seats are extremely comfortable. Not many chairs in a home are as comfortable. The 6 CD Stereo has a full sound and excellent audio range with preprogramed sound fields and plenty of options. A very easy to use and satisfying stereo.
Gas mileage is easily as good (and sometimes better) than the V6 03 Mustang that I traded in to get this Mach 1. Plus, it's a whole lot more fun to drive. The trunk is a good size for a car of this class and even holds two guitar cases with ease.
The seatbelt retractors seem to be a problem on Mustangs. They sometimes become difficult to retract. The belt also easily slips out of the loop on the driver's seat. My old 96 Z-28 and current 02 Eclipse GT have far better seatbelts.
My Mach 1 is zinc yellow and gets more attention from spectators and other drivers than any car I've owned. It is a stunning looking car and though nearly 7 years old, has the appearance of something new...yet with that vintage look of the signature shaker hood. Expect a lot of envious looks and stares when you drive around in an 03 or 04 Mach 1....read morehide
