2005 Ford Mustang

- cool exterior; great to look at; good set of features in premium package
- get the leather wrap steering wheel upgrade, as the plastic wheel is low quality.
If you are late boomer (40+) like me and remember the Mustang's of the 60s and very early 70's (your childhood before the energy crisis), then this car is for you. But, if it doesnt cause your heart to thump, pulse to quicken, and your throat to tighten just by looking at it ... then don't buy it - buy a civic - a mustang is an emotional purchase - it will help you overlook some of the minor issues!
I purchased straight off the lot a windveil blue premium convertible w/ charcoal leather interior, abs, traction control, wheel locks, ext. sport package, automatic - truly beautiful.
My experience so far -
Lots of fun, great to look at and drive. I've got a few comments from complete strangers. V6 sounds great, handles excellent and is fun in the turns (my other car is an Expedition so its all relative).
Put the top down and turn up the volume ... this is one fun ride!
Interior finish looks great in retro terms, but materials could have been upgraded by Ford ... they are too plastic. Shaker stereo is excellent playing mp3's (record at slow speeds 2x 4x to avoid skipping) - i have about 50 albums on 6 cds - no shortage of music! Get the Interior Sport or the Upgrade Package - the steering wheel wrap alone is worth the money. If you want the 125 colors on the dash then get the Upgrade for 450.
Gas mileage seems to be an issue - i had hoped to get in the low 20s for combined city/highway but dont think i'm getting that ... oh well.
NJ dealers are pushing 3-5k over MSRP - NY dealer was MSRP.
I could probably write a lot more about it ... just get in one and you'll decide for yourself ... it will resonate or not.
