2005 Ford Taurus

- Extremely quiet and comfortable; handles well
- Factory carpeting could be better quality for an SEL
Purchased As Used
With 85,000 miles, I get about 18mpg city and 25mpg highway, and runs great with regular gas. The cruise control has a number of nice features. It has a very smooth ride and handles very well. It has third row seatsy with the center arm rests tucked away. It has leather seats and a great stereo radio.
The aluminum wheels clean up nicely in any car wash. The ABS brakes work efficiently, and stop very effectively. I have a moon roof, and it works great and seals perfectly.
It has the capability to fold down the rear seats to permit my very long fishing poles to extend through the trunk. I just love this feature, because I can put all kinds of long items in my trunk that normally require an SUV or a wagon. The trunk is huge, is illuminated and has a cargo net.
It has an automatic dimming rearview mirror, and electric 6-way driver's seat. The outside mirrors have defrosters and both sides are electronically adjustable. They even include puddle lights that light when the car doors are open. It has an antitheft ignition that cannot be jumped, because it uses a "smart" key. It has remote trunk operation and remote single door or all-door operation. It has electronic child safety locks. The driver's window has an optional one-click roll-down. The paint still looks brand new.
The only mechanical work that I have had to do in over 20,000 miles of ownership is to replace the tensioner and belt. That's it!
I installed upgraded floor mats, because I don't care for the factory carpeting. The headliner material could be better as well, but it's okay. It does have a leather-wrapped steering wheel.
It's a good value for the money. I think it's the best value in class myself.
I'm looking at the 2013 models....read morehide

- I am getting 24 MPG City / 30 MPG Highway
I had a 1995 Ford Taurus GL, Had a 1996 Ford Taurus GL and now a 2005 Ford Taurus SEL. The 2005 Ford Taurus SEL has a little more pep than the 1996 Ford Taurus. Handles very well. I like this body style better than the 1996 Ford Taurus GL. The 1996 Ford Taurus was too takey on the body style especially the oval back window and the oval stereo system (It could be better)....read morehide

- Lots of standard features; very reliable
- Fuel economy could be better - currently 16+ city driving.
This is my first Ford product and I am very pleasantly surprised with the quality of the SEL. We got an outstanding deal on an executive driven vehicle with 20K miles. The safety and convenience features are numerous and we have not had a bit of trouble with the vehicle in three months of ownership. It is very reliable and I am comfortable with my wife and daughters driving it. As noted, fuel economy is not up to expectations, but I will trade that for overall safety and reliability.
I highly recommend the Taurus SEL to anyone in the market for a mid-size sedan. Too bad Ford discontinued the model line....read morehide

- a very safe car!
I have a '96 taurus sel. I have been rear-ended with very little
damage to my car. I hit a deer with the front of my car with no
damage ( I was going very slow). I was recently hit in the front
end by a suv going at least 50 mph, after she ran a red light; I
was not hurt! Although this last accident may have finally totalled
my car, I was not hurt! This car is as safe as a tank. I love it,
and if I have to replace it, I will get another Taurus. Thanks Ford....read morehide

- Roomy, trunk space
- Have to add ons for extra eye appeal
I love it, I had a '01 and I traded it for a 2005 SEL. I just need some rims, and some 12 in speakers. Reliable car i had it in -30 to 100 def. weather and I never had a problem. I even got it on in the car, and I had plenty of room, After I scooted the seat back.

- Its a really nice car for the money
- Not as classy as the MERCURY SABLE
This 2005 Ford Taurus SEL is a pretty nice car it has alot of great features and i love the wood grain accents on the radio and around the shifter and in the steering wheel it has a very powerless engine a 3.0L 153 HP 12V V6 come on get with it even a 4 cylinder has a least 160 hp the front seat has a good amount of leg room but should have more and the big trunk comes in handy when hauling large cargo i like my Ford Taurus but i should have went with the Mercury Sable LS Premium and spent just $2,000 more and i would have got alot more class...read morehide

- Wonderful Car
- Nothing that I know of - front end dives forward when braking
I have a 2003 Ford Taurus SEL Sedan, woodgrain, leather.. wonderful. I loved it until some guy rear ended me at 60MPH while I was at a dead stop about to turn left. I miss my car so much that I had to come look at it on the internet. That was my baby man.. and the damages are 11,000 so I'm hoping they don't total it out....read morehide

- comfort,room,quiet.excellant performance.
If anybody thinks there are any cons to this car, they are crazy. This car is reminiscent of when Oldsmobile dominated the car market in the 1970's,with their solid sleek heavy cruisers. The Ford Taurus is the modern equivilent of the 1976 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. With it's excellent body style and big car ride. The Taurus is by far one of the best and most progressive and enduring car ideas to come out of Detroit in decades. This just proves, that the engineers, and management at Ford have done everything right for a long time. And it also proves, that you don't have to buy an import to select a winner. You can still achieve ride, performance and comfort by buying American.I have owned both of the cars mentioned here, and must say, that it's startling how each of these cars mirrors the other.Amazing.Old ideas you say?I say nonsence. It's proven fact in what people really want in a car.Style, performance, looks, quality. It's that simple. And the Ford Taurus has them all.I will miss the Taurus as it goes out of production, but I still am enjoying my 2004 model,so life is good....read morehide
