Today I test drove a brand new bright red Transit Connect, not sure you'd get more looks if you were driving a Corvette with a naked super model laying on the hood and fire shooting from the exhaust pipes. I kind of liked the looks and kind of at the same time thought this thing is ugly. After my test drive I have to say, I like it! It's a little bit jouncy over road exspansion joints, but I'm sure a few hundred pounds in the back would calm her down quite a bit. The interior is a little sparse, but is very honest and steering feel is very good, tells you exactly whats happening on the road. Road noise was louder than what us Americans would ever hear in our soft minivans, but not any worse than what you'd hear the average full size cargo vans,. The little 2.0 engine is surprisingly quiet, and shifts are quick and very smooth. Not sure what the Transit weighs but I was amazed at how well it accelerated. This isn't the vehicle for everyone, just as a Porche 911 isn't the car for everyone, but for those who need a good little cargo hauler or could use a small work van, I think this might be it. I was a little bothered by the small cushion in the seat, felt a little uncomfortable, I think this could really become a problem on a long trip. Maybe future vesions will have a little more sound insulation and bigger seat cushions, another row of seats would make this a 7 people hauler and I think Ford would move a few as people would use them a minivans. I like this vehicle, my hat off to Ford for thinking inside the box!
