A good vehicle so far, but....

by Ralph kelly from Colorado Springs, CO (5/21/08)
Pros:32MPG on the highway, 2300 engine, Standard transmission, high gearing differential

I was amazed that the driver's side front wheel well did not have a seperating rubber flap to keep debris, water and dirt out of the engine compartments. All the 2008 Rangers are that way. I am concerned because I consider this a safety problem as there are three brake lines in that area and I fequently drive over gravel roads.. Engine sometime dies when turning the steering wheel and the engine speed is low (extra load of power steering). Air conditioner runs in most fresh air positions even though I only want fresh air.

Happy but Disapointed with Gas Mileage

by Carl from Arlington, Texas (2/10/08)
Pros:Updated from my 200 Ranger
Cons:Dropped 4 MPG from my 200 Ranger

Purchased 2008 Ranger Sport with some upgrades from my 200 Ranger. Both years had 3.0 Engine with the 2000 having a 5 speed manual. The 2008 has a 5 speed automatic and gets 4 MPG less than the 2000. 2000 got 21/24 and 2008 gets 17/22 with the same body, extended cab and everything else, so what give, is it the automatic?

by Frank from belmont C.A (1/26/08)
Pros:Very nice truck
Cons:could be alitte bit bigger and more power but still nice

this is got to be the best truck in it's class great mpg enogh power to tow and haul stuff i am a happy owner of this 2008 ranger i had a 1988 ranger with 200,000 miles then i got a 1992 ranger and put 300,000 miles on it and then i got a 2000 ranger and put 140,000 miles on it but i did not want a stick shift any more so i bought the 2008 double cab because my other 3 trucks where regular cabs so i am a true ranger fan best small truck ever.

Problems at 2000miles. UGH.

by Jim Fillmore from Grosse Pointe Farms, MI (1/17/08)
Pros:22mpg, inexpensive
Cons:Rough idle, lots of rattles

Have had my 4cyl auto stripped down Ranger for a month. LOTS of viobration at idle. Hard starting sometimes. Rattling sound like bb's in a plastic bowl IN the center dash by windshield when coming to a stop. UGH! Gonna take it in. Has a whopping 2000 miles on it.

Cheap on the Wallet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by Michael Vetre from Fayetteville, North Carolina (11/21/07)
Pros:Gas mileage, armrest in middle, easy to clean inside cab, big improvement from past models
Cons:Only had 200 miles with the vehicle and the engine would not idle properly, but then cleared up!

I needed a vehicle after returing from the Middle East and I was determined to find something cheap and great on gas mileage, but not tiny like a car for the same monies. I got a great price, way below the MSRP. I think Ford could add inside the Driver Side Wheelwell a mud flap to keep debri off the engine components. There is one on the Passenger side only. I first thought something was missing and looked at every other 2008 Ford Ranger and could not find one with the interior weelwell flap on the Driver's Side. I even went to the Parts Department at the Dealership and explained to them about the flap being on the passenger side only and that I wanted to order one for the Driver side. I was told that Ford doesn't have one for the Drivers side. It doesn't look normal to see all the engine components just exposed inside the Wheelwell and I really wish is was closed in. I am very pleased that the truck comes standard with a bedliner too. Thanks to Crown Ford of Fayetteville, NC for the best deal on a Small Truck.

Unhappy customer

by Charles Steely from Williamsburg, ky (11/08/07)
Pros:good fuel economy
Cons:gas pedal sticks

I bought this vehicle three months ago. I have been to the shop twice with different concerns, neither time were my concerns addressed to my satisfaction. I will never buy a Ford product again. The gas pedal sticks and since it is a five speed, it is a major annoyance. Also once the vehicle would not start. The dealer reported no problems when vehicle was presented for service. Suffice to say this vehicle has not lived up to expectations.

good

by Raymond Louw from Johannesburg, South Africa (8/10/07)
Pros:Plus on fuel economy, good engine performance, reliable
Cons:Gear stick leather was a little loose when brand new -- also seems to be tough to get into gear ofte

A good van/pickup. Doubles as family car well at times. Seems to be very spare on beefy look compared to new competitors (Ranger 2.5 turbodiesel double cab). A bit more beef instyling without making it look like a girls car would be good.
