Purchased As New
Let me start by saying my last car was a 1999 (purchased new) Toyota Solara SE 4 cyl. w/ TRD rims & performance tires. *This is not intended to attempt to compare a Solara to the new Accord, but I drove that car for 13 years!* This Honda is much better in many ways. It feels much sportier with it's tight suspension and much quicker engine. It's seats are more comfortable on long trips and it gets better mileage. It's attractive out of the box but I had the dealer add on the "aero package", side molding, and moonroof visor. It's been called a real show piece.
The Solara, while out-classed, was a great car and got me used to certain things which exposed some weaknesses in the Honda. This car is more difficult to see out of from the rear and sides. The standard rearview camera is a necessity not a luxury. My EX has no power seat and it doesn't slide back quite far enough for my tastes (I'm only 5'9"). The wheels on my Solara were 17's like the Accord but were wider and had performance tires. I don't have the same confidence in aggressive cornering since the Honda's tires hold the corners (so far) but protest with much howling. Also, some may prefer the softer suspension of the Toyota. I've also experienced some first year bugs... the aero package has already had to be replaced once for coming loose and I get a "check charging system" message quite often. The dealers can't find a problem and the car runs fine with no driveability problems. Finally, I was hard pressed to find an angle that I didn't like on the Solara, the Accord can look a little odd sometimes depending on how you approach.
All-in-all the 2013 Accord Coupe is a great car, it just (for me) has a hard act to follow after my Solara. Solara owners love their cars and they still look good and not outdated. I'm sure with time this Accord will grow on me as it continues to demonstrate it's superiority....read morehide
