- Great Handling, Feels Solid
- Driver's seat is designed by the devil.
I want to start of with the things I like about the car, but I am so consumed with how uncomfortable the driver's seat is that I must start there. The headrest points too far forward. My head is pushed forward to such a degree that I am not able to sit up straight. If I were to try and sit normally by placing my back on the seat, the headrest forces my head down so that my chin is pushed close to my neck.
Lumbar support is nonexistent. My back aches from lack of lumbar support. I get aches after only 15 minutes of driving. The seat is very hard. Sitting in the car for an hour makes me numb. I am literally depressed that I didn't notice this when I test drove the car. I might not have purchased it. I hate to say it, but my 98 Neon is hands down much more comfortable to sit in.
Now, some positive things. The car handles great. It feels like one solid unit when cornering. It gives me the impression that the car was carved out of metal rather than assembled. Turning radius is great for a car of this size. Not sure why there are complaints about road noise, but I feel the car is quiet and smooth. Very little wind noise, and the road noise is muffled.
I have 700 miles on the car so far, averaging 25mpg with mixed driving. I am hoping I get better mileage now that the break-in period is ending.
Overall, I am happy with just about everything except the comfort of the seat. I will be taking it in to an upholstery shop to to work on. They will add an extra layer of cushion to the seat as well as add in some lumbar support. I am very dissapointed that I must do that to a new car.
If I were to do it all over again, I am not sure that I would buy the Honda. I can't recommend the car, because I consider the seat design to be a major flaw.
