2003 Honda Civic Coupe User Reviews
HX CVT w/ Front Side Airbags shown
- $3,409 - $4,825
- reliable, gas mileage, value
- stereo, seat, transmission not always smooth
Purchased As New
bought this car new. the stereo was pathetic, so i got an aftermarket right away. the seat isn't the most comfortable, so i got a seat cover that helped out. and lastly, the transmission isn't always the smoothest but i have 117k miles and it's still working.
outside of those things, i still LOVE my car. it's been super-duper reliable, just needing minimal maintenance. i average about 30 miles/gallon combined (probably 60%+ city) and i have a heavy foot. if i do a longer trip on the highway, i'm usually 35-36 miles/gallon.
this car always runs and gets me where i need to be. all my former american cars were absolute money pits. i feel i actually got value for what i paid for this time. i'm very happy with my purchase i made 9 yrs ago and plan on keeping it another 2 or 3 more yrs. maybe longer, who knows? i wish i would've bought a honda much earlier than i did. i've been extremely happy with my car.
it's not the greatest in snow (i'm in chicago) but i don't think it's much worse than any other similar car in this class....read morehide

- Easy to maneuver in tight spaces. Visiblity is good.
- No Power. Bumpy, jittery ride, horrible handling, Zero steering feel,

This is definably a civic that you would want to avoid. I have had the Honda Civic EX for 100,000 miles. It constantly has problems, The front right strut busted after only 20,000 miles, this is a known defective strut arrangement that Honda never fixed. The Transmission started developing a rattling sound and needed to be replaced at only 40,000 miles. Brakes are horrible, this is the EX model and it only has Front disc brakes, the rear are drums. The engine has no power whatsoever, it only has 127 hp but feels like it has 60 hp at best. The torque on this car is non existent, and frankly makes this car dangerous when merging or passing on the highway. The handling is equally bad. The nice handling and riding civics from the past are no more. This civic has one of the worst handling of all civics and anyone who owns the 7th gen civic knows what I'm talking about. The ride is horrible, its constantly bumpy even on smooth pavement, and the steering is completely dead, no on center feel at all. And during corning the car feels like its going to tip over it leans so much. The gas mileage is average considering how little this has.
The paint is cheap and chips easily, and the transmission i mentioned, don't think you can buy this car and simply fix the transmission and not worry about it because it will brake again and and again, it is defective and Honda never admitted or sent out a recall for it. The bearing inside will start to rattle and eventually brake down and the whole transmission will need to be replaced, that's 1000 to 2000 $ for a new one. This is a known problem on these 7th generation civics.
Your best bet is to avoid this car at all costs....read morehide

- Great gas mileage, and cost, Average 31 mpg in city and 37 mpg and 38 to 40 mpg on long trips.
- I wish it would have more horsepower.
Purchased As New
Bought the car new, due to a job change. I needed better fuel economy. Ride is comfortable, and upkeep does not inexpensive. Currently have 1391547 miles. I changed rhe timing belt, clutch, and brakes. I plan on driving this vehicle for another 60,000 miles.
