- Good fuel economy
- Poor quality, Rough ride
I have 10,000 on my 07 now. Took it in for 2nd oil change and tire rotation. Came back with metal tapping sounds in the right front and rear suspenion area. This takes place on any semi bumpy road. Took it back to the dealer, they acted like they could not hear anything and didn't even take the time to put it on the lift to check it out. I thought Honda was supose to be top notch in quality and customer service. They told me to wait and see if it gets worse so they can then maybe find the problem. I guess I will have to wait for somthing major and then take it to a different dealership....read morehide

- Good sound system, stylish, advanced interior layout
- Suspension lacks damping, gutless at low RPM, throttle lag, rattles
This is my first new car. I am not that impressed to be honest. The interior layout and exterior looks of the car are superb, but I have three major issues with the car.
Worst: throttle lag. You press the gas pedal and the "drive by wire" decides when to actually give gas. This is the worst when starting on hills...you will press the pedal and nothing will happen for a half second, so while you're rolling the wrong way you'll panick and press it more. Enjoy unintended burnouts and people looking at you thinking "what's his problem?!"
Bad: rattles. So far in the first 300 miles I've heard three rattles. One is in the driver door, one is in the roof, and one is somewhere in the back. They all kick in at different speeds and different road conditions, or can all kick in at once. I bought a new car so that I wouldn't have to listen to my ride falling apart. So much for Honda fit and finish.
Just lame: the suspension lacks any kind of sensible damping in the suspension. This is noticed when rolling at 1 or 2 mph and pressing the brakes...the car will pitch forward and backwards 3 or 4 times after stopping. It's like driving a trampoline. Also noticable when getting on and off the accelerator. I thought new cars should have smooth rides...my 20 year old Volvo did better at damping movement....read morehide

- Pick up, looks, upolstery, resale value, comfort
- entry/exit, gas mileage, occasional engine hesitation
Honda seems to be slipping. Nothing major - yet. Just a disturbing lack of attention to detail in my new Civic. Makes you wonder if they are also negelcting things that really matter.
Some examples. You cannot read the clock/radio display when wearing polarized sunglasses and the spedometer display is noticeably dimmed as well. A minor irritation? Maybe, but the fix is sooo simple: just rotate the sheets of plastic from which these lenses are punched 90 degrees. Didn't anyone drive the prototype with sun glasses on? Does Honda really care?
The overly long clutch travel means you have to keep the seat forward and that interferres with entry and exit. (No, I'm of average height 5' 8", but I'm considering installing an extension on the clutch pedal).
The extra "power" versus my older '02, is the result of gearing down the transmission. Of course that cuts gas mileage and increases wear on drivetrain and engine. And when are they going to wise up and add an overdrive or sixth "economy" gear fer gosh sakes? They already make a six speed box.
This engine stumbles occasionally - not enought to affect performance but just enough to be annoying and reduce confidence in car's ability to accelerate.
I'm sorry I gave my '02 Civic to my daughter. With 130,000 miles on it, it was a better car than my '07 is new.
I could routinely get 40+ mpg with it and it was well thought out.
Yeah, the new Civic is really comfortable and has lots better handling, but I found the Saturn I looked at very appealing and lots cheaper. This may be my last Honda....read morehide

- Fuel economy, looks, ride, safety.
- Poor quality control.
The car is lovely, looks and rides great, handles very precisely, etc. But the factory quality control is (at least in my unit) VERY POOR. I took it to the dealership three times already for rattles in the rear suspension system. And now I am having problems with the radio-CD player (volume goes off on its own) and I only rode 3500 miles. I am pretty mad at the Honda people, didn't expect this from this brand. Where's the famous Honda quality control and reliability? Not in this one, for sure....read morehide
