2007 Honda Civic Coupe User Reviews
EX 5-Spd MT w/ Navigation System shown
- $6,942 - $9,983
- Good sound system, stylish, advanced interior layout
- Suspension lacks damping, gutless at low RPM, throttle lag, rattles
This is my first new car. I am not that impressed to be honest. The interior layout and exterior looks of the car are superb, but I have three major issues with the car.
Worst: throttle lag. You press the gas pedal and the "drive by wire" decides when to actually give gas. This is the worst when starting on hills...you will press the pedal and nothing will happen for a half second, so while you're rolling the wrong way you'll panick and press it more. Enjoy unintended burnouts and people looking at you thinking "what's his problem?!"
Bad: rattles. So far in the first 300 miles I've heard three rattles. One is in the driver door, one is in the roof, and one is somewhere in the back. They all kick in at different speeds and different road conditions, or can all kick in at once. I bought a new car so that I wouldn't have to listen to my ride falling apart. So much for Honda fit and finish.
Just lame: the suspension lacks any kind of sensible damping in the suspension. This is noticed when rolling at 1 or 2 mph and pressing the brakes...the car will pitch forward and backwards 3 or 4 times after stopping. It's like driving a trampoline. Also noticable when getting on and off the accelerator. I thought new cars should have smooth rides...my 20 year old Volvo did better at damping movement....read morehide

- Not much
I have written reviews on this car before, and have had one area I could not figure out. The gas mileage. The '07 is rated at 30 city and 40 highway. I do well to get 30 mpg. I have been wondering what I am doing wrong. Today I looked at the new mpg ratings for '08. In case you did not know, the federal government FINALLY updated mpg testing requirements. The result: the same automatic EX coupe in '08 is rated at 25 city and 36 highway. That is very accurate. Do not be fooled by the window sticker that says 30/40 on the '07...Beyond that, this is an excellent car. Smooth ride. Handsome interior and exterior styling. Fully loaded for a reasonable price. I highly recommend this car if you are shopping for a sporty coupe. Keep in mind the actual gas mileage and you are good to go with this car....read morehide

- Fuel economy has never been better, great looks, alot of positive feedback from others
- Just the blind spots, but if youre careful, its no big deal
I bought this car in May of 2007. I cant tell you how scared i was to buy it because I have never had a vehicle before. I saw this in the showroom and I fell in love with it ever since. I test drove it, looked at all the features and its perfect. The safety features (side airbags, front and passenger) are all great and I really feel safe driving it. Yes, there are some blind spots but if youre not from Boston, you'll be fine. Its the cars from the Bostonians that dont make it past the first year but if you respect the road and other drivers, you should be fine. Overall, its the best investment i have ever made, this car has handled beutifully, and has responded promptly and efficiently on high speeds. I would definitley invest thousands of my money again on a Civic. The 2008 Civic has leather now!...read morehide

- Fully loaded for $20K, Good looks
- Fuel Economy is not as great as you expect
This is my one year follow up to my original review. This is a great car overall. It is nice to drive, but don't expect more than 26-28mpg around town. Very few rattles which typically is a necessary evil in this car segment. The road noise is pronounced at higher speeds, but that is what the great sound system is for. I had this car for nearly ten months before I realized there is an audio input for my ipod. Great styling and decent acceleration. Headlights are not automatic, but that is a minor detail. A/C did not seem to get cold enough until I changed the original air filter and that made a big difference. If you are in the market for a car in this price range and class, do not bother looking any further. This is the best coupe you will find for $20,000....read morehide

- No trim specified for this review
- cute, fun to drive
- seats not comfortable, blind spots, does not get as good of gas mileage as promised
I love my new car. I have driven it a little over 5000 miles. I only get 29 - 30 MPG, not what they promised and I don't drive it hard. The head rests hold your head in a tilted forward position so I have to lean the seat back to get comfortable. I have problems with blind spots so be careful changing lanes. Those are the only cons. The pros is that it is so much fun. It is cute and sporty and it handles great! I highly recommend getting the package with the sun roof, I use it all the time. I like all the safety features too. I read that this car was voted in the top 10 for making it 200,000 miles. It hasn't given me one once of trouble. I can easily overlook a few of the cons and would gladly buy it again in the future. I found the best pricing by going on the internet. Within a day I had 2 dealerships trying to get my business. Each time one would call they dropped the price to match the other's pricing as welll as offered me more for my trade in. I ended up getting a fantastic deal by just quoting the next discount each time they called. Don't be in a hurry and you can get some great barganing. It saved me a little over $1500. 00 over their initial "BEST PRICE"...read morehide

- 40 mpg, gets lots of looks, Honda quality, world's best auto trans.
- original tires noisy, not enough color choices
My wife insists on the auto tranny, I like a stick. We got the auto and it is the first one I've driven that still feels "sporty" and makes full use of the 4 cyl. engines' power. Comfortable on long trips. Doesn't feel like an economy car. Put on a set of Michelin winter tires and rides and handles better on all surfaces....read morehide

- Excellent fuel mileage, people need to learn to drive for mileage
- no negitives on this car- way more car than I expected
I just finished two round trips to Colorado from Lawrence Ks, averaged 41 mpg, best tank was 43.9. Drive this car at 70 mph, learn how to drive for mileage or take a course. Sure I was passed by every car on the road, but I'm still laughing at their mileage. I now have 8,642 miles on the car, the A/C works perfectly but watch the vent position, floor & dash is the best position. The shifting is sharp & crisp and the engine is powerfull for it's size. Any road noise was from the different pavements as this car is definately quiet. Sure the interior is mostly plastic, but that's expected, it's a light car, how do you think they make light cars? I didn't expect so much car for the money, have driven fords the last 30 years, bought this car for the gas mileage, and the high reviews. So if you are talking about the poor mileage and all the other bad things, you must be trying to sell other brands. I can get better gas mileage and would willingly put this car against any other except the HiBreds, and I'd expect the same sort of complaints on them from the same sort of people, realistically- I don't think people are all that happy with the HiBreds....read morehide

- Looks sporty, handles well.
- Gas mileage, parking break location.
I have owned this car since May 2007. I had previously owned a 2003 Civic EX. I got around 38 MPG city with it, I only get around 28-32 with this one. The parking break is in a terrible location, it pushes into my leg all the time. It is impossible to see out the back-side of this thing, the pillars are huge! Don't get foglights, they don't make much of a difference since you are so low and they are easily broken by rocks....read morehide
