2008 Honda Civic Coupe

- Great Handling, Great Looks, Comfortable Interior
- AT downshifts at wrong times, Rearend will eat tires...
Purchased As New
Overall the car is ok, but as a previous honda owner, I expected much more for what I paid. When driving down a hill and you take your foot off the accelerator, at about 35-40 mph the tranny down shifts, using engine braking and raising the rpms. This does nothing for mpg's. The rear end is knocked out of alignment very easy. The tires will get cupped quickly-(don't rely on your honda dealer to find this) Other than that, the car gets a "C" grade for honda's effort. Not near the car of the 05 as far as gas mileage......read morehide

- good mileage and parkability
- VERY rough ride and horrible in snow
Purchased As New
I bought this mainly as a sporty and modern looking fuel economy vehicle. It looks cool inside and out, but the ride quality is atrocious. On a smooth road you're fine (of course!) but ANY imperfection in the road and your bouncing and jarring up and down. The interior noise level is also high. The interior is also very cheap. The digital dash is cool but the rest of the interior is very cheap.
If you're thinking that this is a mini version of an Accord coupe, you are dead wrong. The Accord coupe has a very solid feel and handles bump, potholes, etc like a normal car. I've had mine since 2006 and Honda hasn't made any real changes to the car since then. I wouldn't expect them to make major changes since it was just redesigned in 06 but I just point that out so that you don't think Honda may have improved what I'm complaining about.
Take it from someone that has owned this car and driven it for years (not a week). I like Honda in general but for this segment of car, you're better off with a Corolla. I understand the Corolla isn't a coupe but at least it's quieter and softer, and has similar long term reliability and resale. I promise you that the jarring ride will annoy you to no end....read morehide

- exterior styling, handling, decent mpg, heads up speedo, smooth shifting auto trans
- Road noise, interior rattles, road noise, uncomfortable seats. Did I mention road noise?
At first I liked this car a lot but after it has been broken in and I have gone on a few road trips for work, I am disappointed with the comfort and the various noises. My back and legs get very stiff after driving this car for over 2 hours or so. Also, it has developed several noises that are very annoying and the road noise is pretty intense. This is the first car I have ever bought with an automatic transmission. I bought this transmission for the comfort of not having to shift only to find later that this car is really not built for comfort. Having said that, if this car had a manual transmission it would be a really fun car. It handles great and has pretty good acceleration. I traded in my 2006 Corolla for this car and I'll just say I have mixed feelings. Corolla is much more comfortable, but not as fun to drive. Also, I think this car will go 300,000 miles if someone wants to drive it and maintain it for that long....read morehide

- A true stunner...beautiful car. Great value. Comfortable. Fun to drive!
- fairly significant "blind spots" towards the rear
I traded in a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe for this car...and I am not looking back! I love it so much...it is a beauty.

- great mpg, looks amazing, does what its supposed to do!
this little car is amazing! its already my 2nd one. the first one was totalled by a lady driving 70mph, and she crashed head on ito me, the car literally saved my life with the airbags and side curtains. the car spun and was competely gone, but i cant beleive it saved my life! it looks absolutely great, sleek, sporty, does its job, and is so smooth and light. its fun driving it! after i got my new one, someone backed right into it pretty hard! - no damage done, its a strong little car!...read morehide

- Excellent fuel economy
- New style front windshield limits view on turns a little bit.
Mine's the automatic with cruise control. It has great acceleration to freeway speeds. Honda is the only car I know of that gives the driver a place to rest their left foot, a great feature on a long trip.

- Good fuel economy, great look, easy to take care of
This is my fourth civic. My son traded his 1987 (with over 200,000) miles last year. My mother is still driving her 1994 Civic with about 180,000 miles. They last for ever. Two years ago I was in an accident in my BMW three series and traded it in after it was repaired for an Inifiniti G35. I only kept the Infiniti about seven months. The paint was horrendous, I had to get acid baths twice. And the premium gas was outrageous. Finally I went to Honda and they tried to talk me into an Accord. But I also test drove the 2008 Civic EX and I was hooked. I love love love love it. I had so much trouble with the paint on the Inifniti. This car, I just take a bucket with warm water, gently wash the car down and apply wax. It takes me less than an hour to do a complete detail and the paint is better than a $35,000 luxury car. I go about two weeks on a tank of gas, no more premium. I am SO HAPPY that I got this car. There are a few rattles here and there, but for the money spent and the reliability I would recommend this car to anyone. I love that it is so small and easy for me to handle. It's like driving an expensive sports car! And I've had a few!...read morehide

- Wondeful Fuel Economy, Safety features, Comfort, Reliability, Look
- Not enough time to drive it...
Previously owned a 2001 Pontiac Grandam, horrible car for quality and was a nightmare to get rid of. Basically, I limped it to the dealership for the trade in, in which I was given $2,800. I needed a fuel-efficient car that was safe, reliable and that would present me in an appropriate manner. Currently I am 16, and have purchased this car to last me through college. I knew Honda had a great reputation, as Toyota has in the past, and was sold the minute I sat in the vehicle. I didn't care for the Toyota's much, and my parents own a 2008 Subaru Legacy 2.5 GT which has been an OK car, but doesn't have the quality or the fine-point details that Honda products do. My parents also own a 2005 Acura MDX, and have had no problems with that. I based my decision upon these factors, and am very happy with my purchase. Overall, I would say you can't beat the value of a Honda Civic. If you're looking for a safe, reliable, comfortable and nice looking ride, save yourself time and frustration by going for the Cicic. You won't be dissapointed with it. Spend your time looking for the Civic you want, because that's the hard part with today's current demand....read morehide

- Looks great, comfortable, love the dash!
- Poor performance. Broke down first day I bought it. Broke down again second day, still in shop.
Well, I guess one of us has to get the lemon. I bought a brand new 2008 Civic EX on a Monday night, had to bring it in for service the day after as it stalled on my way to work. Service department couldn't duplicate the problem. Stalled again on the second day, engine light on both times, now they say they have to replace the whole assembly? Salesman misled me on the stereo system and the dealership offered me XM and a free oil change. Can't comment on the mpg as I only put 50 miles on it, so I don't know. This was my first new car purchase in 20 years, thought Honda was the best. Very disappointed! I asked for refund, thought maybe they would offer another vehicle, no...but offered me my first oil change for free. Oh boy!
I can't recommend this vehicle to anyone, but if the dealership does me right, I will repost and perhaps I will be able to rave about my new car. You know that new car "high" everyone gets when you first get it home? Well, mine only lasted one day....read morehide

- Reliable car, good price, good fuel economy
- interior is easily scratched
My Civic is a 2007...I bought it used in May 2007. It only had 6K miles on it so it wasn't very used. I didn't list any cons even though I was a little disapointed at first with the fuel mileage. My first Civic was a 1997 and it was the best car I have ever owned. It had 250K miles on it when I hit a deer and totaled it. It got 38 to 40 mpg consistently and I am averaging 36 mpg with the 2007. I whined a little bit about the drop in mileage at work one day and just about got lynched by my GM and Ford driving co-workers that are getting 22 mpg (or less) so I decided to be happy with the mpg! I drive 60 miles a day to work and back so fuel economy is extremely important to me especially when fuel is over $4 a gallon.
I've had some problems with alignment issues, in fact I have had to replace the tires already at 30K miles. The dealer has finally admitted there is a service bulletin about some parts that may be missing that could cause uneven tire wear and/or loud tire noise from the rear. I guess I could have put that down as a con, but I blame that more on the dealership than on the car.
I am sold on Honda and when the time comes to replace this car I will be replacing it with another Honda. Probably another Civic!...read morehide
