- Unbelievable value, dependable, very smooth yet sporty fast, good gas mileage
- Not premium enough for LA; I ride it rough and need new brakes after 18k miles
If you want value, look no further. Honda's are simply extremely practical, from the purchase price to the reliability and maintenance cost to the unbelievable gas mileage (the non-hybrid does better than most hybrids!). The thing is you're not scrimping on "driveability" either. This car is really zippy. In fact, I regularly (read: always) zip from stop to go faster than the porsches, bmws, audi's, lexuses lined up beside me - not because I'm some crazy daredevil, but because it is simply a zippy, light car with good speed and extremely smooth automatic shifting I should also mention. The interior gets raves from most people that sit in it for the first time - particularly the mph gauge. It's a comfortable interior.
The only ding I give the Civic is that I live in LA and even the janitor has a BMW, so at times I do feel like perhaps, if possible, the Civic is TOO practical.
Take it or leave it, it's a great vehicle. The specs, performance and comfort are the same or better in my opinion than the 'premium' models out there, at half the price and cost of ownership. So it really depends what you want. At the end of a couple years, you've had fewer surprises and $20k in your pocket, but maybe fewer dates. :) Happy car-hunting.
