I'm an engineer at heart and I love effecient, solid design. I've put over 18,000 miles on the hybrid and it averaged 41.9 mpg overall. This spring and summer (the last 4,000 miles) my average is up 45.1 - getting better overall and better in warm months. I love the challenge of learning to drive efficiently.
My Civic Hybrid has educated me on how to drive efficiently to maximize mileage and I love all the high-tech gauges, gizmos and gadgets. I especially love that it looks like a regular car - I don't like show-boaters. I adore how the engine shuts off automatically at stops (does anyone else think stop lights are getting longer and longer?) And I've finally mastered using the breaking system to store energy. What great features! I'm an engineer at heart and this is a fantastic step forward.
On the family ski-trip this spring, the hybrid was fantastic through the mountains - with even more power than my 4L Jeep Commanche pickup. My nephew raved about how it handled the mountains without slowing down. I didn't like seeing it get below 20 mpg going uphill - but going downhill it got 100+; balancing MPG out in the long run.
I wish I could control the CVT with over-rides and keep it from conflicting with the cruise control. Don't expect it to take mountains without racing the motor. I just drive mountans manually.
I don't know if I saved money purchasing the hybrid; but, maybe using less gas and putting less carbon in the atmosphere is actually a good thing. It's the cleanest, most normal looking super-effecient car on the market. I feel great driving it.
Does anyone really need a Hemi to commute to work at 35 mph?
Do you like high-tech engineering and effeciency?
Do you want to travel inexpensively and guilt free?
Do you want to skip the gas-station?
