- Fuel economy..
- Problems with steering...
I owned a 2006 4 Door Honda Civic EX from May '06 to Dec '06. In that time, I put on 20,000 km on my car. The car was good for fuel economy and performance, but the reason that I traded it off was problems with the steering. I will elaborate.
For the last few months that I owned the car, the car would start to "wonder" when I was driving down the road. This could happen at any speed (city or highway), and on smooth dry pavement. I would be holding the steering wheel straight and all of a sudden the car would start drifting from one side or another. It got to be pretty scary as I wasn't able to control the car. I took the car into the local dealer and had the service manager come with me for a ride. He told me during this ride that he has seen this problem in at least 5 other vehicles that the dealership had sold, even brand new ones off the lot. He suggested a 4 wheel alignment, which he did for my car on that day. I took the car on the highway a couple days later and the problem happened again, where it started to wonder from side-to-side.
Even though I loved the car for its fuel economy, I no longer felt safe in the car and traded it off. I now drive a 2006 Nissan Altima. Yes, it doesn't have the same fuel economy as the Civic, but I feel safer in it!
