- Good resale value. Handles well, holds the road at higher speeds.
- Gas mileage low 26MPG. High-pitched whine in trans at over 40MPH. Windshiled wipers smear.
I am very unhappy with the 2006 Honda Civic EX. I loved my 97 Honda Civic and talked everyone into buying Honda. Not any more. My new 2006 car has a very annoying high-pitched whine that they tell me is in the transmission gear, and starts at 38 MPH and is really loud at around 44 MPH. The dealer says that they hear it, but it is inherent in the car, so there's nothing they can do about it. I have to turn the radio on to drown it out.
Also, this car has lots of wierd little clanking metal noises under my feet sometimes when shifting in reverse or going over some bumps. However, this car does hug the road well, and the wider tires help, so I am pleased with the overall handling. The new type of windshield wipers have already been replaced by the dealer as they smear on the steeply inclined windshield in the rain.
One of the reasons I bought a Honda is because of the advertised mileage, but I am only getting 24 MPG for highway or city.
As for appearance, he dashboard looks kind of toy-like and they must have used cheaper materials because every little bump or scratch marks it permanently. The "cut-off too short front" of the car is not very attractive, and creates a big blind spot in front since you can't see the hood at all.
If I could change it, I would purchase a Toyota or Volkswagon. The 96-97 Honda was made much classier and better, and at a much better price! In fact, my son is driving it at college, with 160,000 miles on it. I will not keep my new one that long. I would recommend that you take a long test drive before purchasing. My dealer only let me drive on a 35MPH back road. I would insist on a highway and varied conditions next time.
