Purchased As New
Owned my 2013 Honda Civic LX 5AT for about 7 months so I consider myself an expert on this car.
ENGINE: 1.8L 4-cylinder is an excellent and reliable engine. It has enough power to merge and pass just needs to work harder due to lack of low-end torque. It gets revvy when you step on the gas but the power is adequate enough to get the job done. At 140hp it is a little underpowered but it is a sacrifice I am willing to pay in return for excellent fuel economy.
Transmission: 5-speed automatic is a little outdated since most competitors have 6-speed or CVT, but it is silky smooth and shifts when it should.
Fuel Economy: I've been getting 37-41MPG overall since new, this is with a/c use. On the highway, I get 45MPG. The worst gas mileage I got was while using the ECON button full-time.
Handling: Excellent. I have driven this car on twisty mountain roads and it handles flawlessly
Noise: Cabin is very quiet due to the thicker windows and extra sound proofing an improvement over the 2012. But the tires seem a little noisy probably due to the standard Firestone Affinity tires.
Seats: In my previous car I would get back spasms and sore & bruised tailbone after 7 hours. But I haven't had any pain in the Civic. Seat is quite comfortable.
Features: The standard rear-view camera is excellent and useful since I have dogs that like to walk behind the car. The Bluetooth works well and the Pandora streaming is very useful. One of few cars with standard alarm system and keyless entry which saved me a trip to the alarm shop and $200.
Complaints: No lock on glove box; gushing sound from gas tank; loud squeaks from wiper
Price Paid: I paid $17,000 7 months ago which was $2700 off sticker but now you can buy for as low as $16,000 on Truecar. Prices vary according to Zip code.
