- Excellent power, handling, and braking. Very good value.
- Lots of shifting. Shifts smoother if running high rpms.
This car is a lot of fun to drive and the performance is excellent. It drives like a much more expensive european sports car at a fraction of the cost. The exhast is well tuned and it sounds nice without being overly loud. The car is happiest over 4k rpm and red lines at 8k. Above 4k it feels like it is turbo charged which it is not.
The drive by wire accellerator does tend to make the engine rpms to stay high when the accellerator pedal is released and the clutch depressed. The rpms do not act like a conventional car where the rpm drops when you take your foot off the gas and depress the clutch. Maybe this is an advantage when quickly accellerating and shifting?
The cockpit is designed very well. The seats wrap around the body and are very supportive on the curves without being too hard on the rear.
The trunk is large for a car this small.
Some reviewers found the ride a little bumpy but I did not think it was bad at all. It gave me good feedback of the road without being jarring.
The stock tires are Michelin Pilot HX MXM4. They handle nice but I checked the price and they are over $230 each at Costco!
I test drove the standard civic with the 140 hp engine. It felt like a turtle after driving the SI at 197 hp.
The sound system is nice but the stock speakers could be a little better. Even though it has a 7 speaker system with sub woofer, it did not sound as crisp and clear as some custom systems.
I am extremely happy with the car and my insurance was not too much more expensive than a standard sedan.
