2006 Honda Civic Si

- lots of fun
- dash is not for everyone, some rattles
Not to brag, but my other car is an M3. The Si, is at least as much fun to drive, maybe even more.....it is obviously not as fast, nor does it handle as well, but it feels fast and it feels like a sports car. When driving economically, I have gotten over 28 miles a gallon, and when racing it more, I still get 25. There are some minor rattles, but overall the quality is great...and, I paid just over $800 to extend the warranty to 7 years...that says something about the lack of problems(hopefully) to expect in the future...in some views, it looks a little funny, I think the hood is too short, but overall the looks are fine....read morehide

- Nice shift 6-speed, corners great, quick on the down shift
- Could use a LITTLE more power
I have had my Si for 3 months now. The car runs and drives great! Handeling is superb, and the gas milage is a great factor also! Could use a little more horses, like with the RSX-S, but not complaining. In my opinion, this new Civic Si is the 600RR of the cars: Quick for its size, corners great, brakes great, and spools out just like the 600RR. In fact, the power bands of the CBR600RR and the Civic Si is almost the same RPM - which is around 6000 RPM. Impressive indeed....read morehide

- Nice styling, Decent power for the price, Resale value
- Back Seat, Lack of torque, Odd dash size
I have been researching cars for the last 8 months while waiting for my new house to be built. I read the magazines and the reviews and now it was time to buy. The test drive was the next step. I think I expected too much.
The power, while decent for the pricing, lacked any sort of excitement. There's very little torque and the throttle feels numb until 4000 RPM. At first I couldn't decide if it was too smooth or just not enough "umph", so I took it on the highway. Again, I got nothing until about 4000 RPM and had to do some very aggressive shifting in order to get it moving. Also, the shifter reminded me a lot of those video game shifters with the 4 dinky gears (except this has 6). I littleraly had to shift with 3 fingers and it didn't feel connected to the engine.
The handling was pretty responsive and the steering was very precise. Not much lacking here.
The car is sexy- no questions asked. I still like seeing them on the road. The inside felt like a typical compact coupe. The seats were firm and fitting and the drivers positioning was intelligently designed. I'm 5'10" and had no problems seeing the separate gauge panels. All controls are directly at your finger tips. The huge dash was a little hard to get over. I understand that the angle of the windshield, blah blah blah, but I think we would have been better off with a normal dash and 10 more HP. The thing made me feel like I was sitting at a dinner table. I couldn't imagine having to Armor-all that thing. The back seats must only be there for insurance rates. There was no more than 4 inches of space between the back of my seat and the front of the back seat. The trunk is very large for such a small car. For this, I was impressed. Outside, everything was tasteful and well designed. Nice job on the exterior.
You are not going to find a better new car for the price and resale will be phenominal for this car. When pricing though, keep in mind that this baby drinks premium. I checked a few insurance quotes and they were very decent for this car, so no problems there.
I like the car and if I was 16-20 I wouldn't think twice about purchasing one. Otherwise, I would have to spend $10K upgrading it to be what I want. For me, I decided to step up to the next level and go with something else. I spend nearly 2 hours in my car every day so I had to get something with a aggressive package, and not-so-immature looks. Sorry Honda, I think you'll have a limited niche with these cars, just like previous Si's.
In any case, if you decide to test drive do not plan to buy the same day. They will give you the spiel- oh, it's limited production and won't last. Sleep on it. If you are worried about losing the one on the lot, place a deposit to hold the car (make sure it is refundable). Never settle for less than what you want and don't let these guys sell you on the car. Let the car sell you (or not, depending on your experience)
I hope this was helpful and that you enjoy your new car no matter what you decide....read morehide

- 197hp i-vtec, lsd, great looking, smooth tranny, 8000rpm red
- not enough of them
This is an outstanding vehicle! Great bang for your buck. . If you want a slow car, don't buy this. If you want a quiet car, dont buy this. If you want plain/ordinary car then dont buy a Civic SI. If you want good fuel economy with good performance, style, reliability and great resale then those are just some of the things to look forward too with the new SI.
For everyone who says the car is too rough a ride or that its too loud or anything else stupid like that you all need to shut up. Thats like calling a Z06 too fast. The SI is SUPPOSED to be louder and its SUPPOSED to have tighter suspension and you should not consider these things as a con. If you want something else from a car then go and re-read what I wrote at the top!...read morehide

- Excellent performance, excellent handling, lots of standards
- No HID or FOG Lights as standard
The car is an excellent buy. I test drove and rented the GTI, Jetta, and TC for a week each but nothing came close to the price, quaility, performance and handling. I was in the store for an EX and salesman warned me that as soon as I test drove the SI forget about the EX. He was right. I am 35+ yr male, who enjoys the drive. In two weeks I put 2000 miles on the car because it is so fun to drive. I have owned 2 Civics, 2 Integras so reliability was not an issue with the Honda name. The car is quick to get up to speed when entering the freeway with short on-ramps, the handling is excellent at handling the four-leaf clover like off-ramps. The instrumentation at first was weird but after a minute or so, it is very convient because after awhile you dont know how fast you are going. The standard all around air bag was a big plus for me, lots of other cars in the same genre are optional. The feel of the handling is like that of a BMW 3 series but without the cost. If you are in the market to buy a car, the Honda Civic Si is a excellent buy....read morehide

- NAV system
- Torque is weak
if you are the owner already, have fun with your new si. this is a really good car in si history.
If you are going to buy one, stop!!!! VW GTI is the better choice. Have test drive tests of both cars, you will know what do i mean.
the only thing VW GTI doesnt have is NAV system.

- sporty looking in black
- rides harsh lacks torque need to down shift constantly rear seat roon nil
mark up from MSRP ridiculous for what you get, come on it's a HONDA . Now look at the new VW GTI. more bang for your buck.Plush interior more HP and torque at lower RPM., even comes with automatic for nearly same price as SI with more standard features.

- Great fuel economy,Awesome GPS,and lets not for get about 0 to 60 .5.9
- Seats can get a bit unfomfortable on long rides.Everything else is great.
I previously owned a 1991 honda civic si. Traded that in for a 2006 honda civic si. Wow is all i hafta to say . Like many others say it lacks a bit in torque. My opinion we have some people here that just starting driving manuel transmission. Like all honda 4cyl vtecs. You need to be in the right gear at the right time and make sure those Rpms are high for maximum accelaration. The transmission is very pricise nice short throws. Feels like RSX trans i test drove at the dealership i could be wrong . Gps summer tires all under 22,000 great buy!!! Go buy one today !!...read morehide

- Feels great to drive, Fuel economy is OK. All around joy to own, I love my Si.
This is by far the best car I have ever had. Its hot and fast and well worth the money. Its my dream car, I could ask for anything better than this. Im sure honda will think of more things to add in upcoming years, but I am proud to own the first redesigned Si!
