I've now driven my element = 28,000 miles over 18 months (2006). The mileage was less than expected. At first I wanted to get rid of it after a few months but now I've gotten to like the features. i.e.: the entry point is a good feature as I don't have to duck when getting in. The rear is somewhat tricky but I knew about the suicide doors prior to purchase so I have no complaints. The ride is very good especially since I bought mine with extra wide tires which gives it a more cushy ride compared to the original tires.
It seats 4 adults quite comfy. It is not a Lexus and not as gutsy as my wife's 400h but I have accustomed myself to the less torque and now enjoy my ownership to where I will keep it for as long as it runs good. The car has never been in a shop for repairs as it is very realiable as other Honda cars have been. Easy to keep clean. I bought an aftermarket navigation unit and that works great making it feel luxurious. I have friends that own Mercedes and I have great difficulty in getting in the passenger side by hitting my head on the way in but no problem with my element. Plenty of head and leg room for all 4 adults.
I use it for carrying audio/visual equipment with the back seats out of the way - a great feature for hauling lumber as well. I added a small carpeting in the rear so items don't slide around on the plactic tarp.
All in all, I'm now a happy camper and would recommend this SUV to anyone.
