2008 Honda Element
There are 10 user reviews for the EX 4WD 5-Spd AT trim shown below
- 4WD, utility, affordable, good cargo capacity, Honda reliability!
- MPG could be better, variable intemt-wipers, no power sunroof option!
Anything good or bad to say about this small SUV has already been said. Go drive one and find out if you like it...that's what I did and ended up purchasing it (chose it over the RAV, FJ, Highlander, Escape and CRV).
Gas milage can be decent if you keep your tac under 3000RPMs. Have gotten as good as 27MPG. My average for daily commute is 21mpg.
Handles great in the snow & ice with new tires, stock tires are terrible, pitch them immediately.
This is a fun little SUV, unique, good styling and you can really customize and personalize it to fit you looks or needs. Nice to drive if you don't expect sportscar perfomance and handling, low cost-of-ownership and all round good quality from Honda!...read morehide

- fun to drive, ton of room inside, also sleeps two
- none really, just that it would be nice with a front sunroof
Great 4wd vehicle for the price, traded my mazda pickup truck for it. I can move just as much stuff and not worry about the weather. Friends I know thought they were ugly and couldn't believe I bought one. Once they driven in it and seen how much fun it is and the vast amount of room inside they love it. One even traded their Mercedes suv in for one. Gas mileage is ok for this 4 cyl. boxy suv. If your looking for great gas mileage, don't buy an suv, buy a Fit, but you might not have as much fun driving....read morehide

- Good gas mileage, roomy
- No daylight running lamps
Great SUV. I've had for a few months/purchased new (EX 4X4 automatic). Mileage on highway is 25.7 mpg. Love the urethane floor..no messy carpet to worry about..wipe up and move on. Love the fold up/or take out seats (we've used that feature already). Very roomy in the back seats for tall adults. Fun to drive, good gas mileage. Works well for my family. My friend bought an Element a few years back. We have bad winters in Ohio and the Element handled the winter weather very well according to my friend. I would purchase another one in a heartbeat. You either love the looks of the Element or hate it. I love all the strange looks I get. Also, people are very surprised how roomy it is and have decided after they initially didn't like it, they liked it after checking mine out....read morehide

- Could be better gas mileage (hybrid)
I have a 2003 element. The only way I would consider getting another vehicle is if they came out with a hybrid version.

- Great car for my dogs, lots of room, good sound system
I traded a 2003 in on a new 2008. Given the price of this car, combined with its utility, you really can't go wrong. It's probably more of a car for 'flat landers' as any vehicle with 166 HP ain't exactly going to get you over the passes in the Rockies ahead of the pack.
Owning two English Springer Spaniels, this car is ideal. Easy to clean.
Besides, for only 23K (sticker price) I really don't caer where I park it or what trouble the dogs might get into.
The sound system is great, there's tons of room for hauling stuff and the reliability is excellent (no problems with the '03 or the '08). I live on a property with a steep driveway and the E goes up it without hesitation even when the driveway is snow covered....read morehide

- Great / fun ride, unique and head-turning car. Reliable and versatile!
- Poor location of the drink holders, no daytime running or auto lights.
Absolutely love my Element. I am through my third tank of gas and I am averaging 20 MPG with about 70% of my driving in town - AC not on. It is a very fun to drive vehicle and gets a lot of attention - curious people poke their head in and a lot of skepticism turns to envy once they view the inside.
The heater gets very hot very quickly and it rides beautifully in cruise control. Took a drive on the interstate with some pretty good winds and surprisingly I didn't get muscled around like I thought I would. My previous vehicle was a mini-van (Chevy Venture) and it was brutal in the wind.
I really love the view....lots of window space and sits up nicely with comfortable seats. Mine came with 90 days of XM radio and I think I will keep it - great selection of music and the sound system is excellent. Now, a few drawbacks.
I don't like the location of the drink holders....they are all of the way on the floor so reaching down from the seat is further than I thought it would be and you have to take your eyes off the road for the back spot. Next, no automatic lights in the car or daytime running lights? I owned an 04 w/ these and I thought it was mandated but it isn't. Also, if you leave the lights on in the car...the bell beeps but there's no shutoff so you have to worry about the battery running down. I already left them on once, but only for about an hour!
I had to really dig to find negative but given the chance I would do it all again!...read morehide

- Tons of room, great ride, totally eccentric in a good way.
- seats get uncomfortable on long rides, blind spot, gas mileage. Develop a convertible!
The best car I have ever owned, including the Honda Pilot I traded in for it! I am almost at my one year anniversary, and I have 20 K miles, so you know I am in it constantly. My youngest son is a boarder, so I make 30 roundtrips to the mountains each winter. With this car, only ice stops me! It is totally eccentric...so am I...we get along!...read morehide

- Great vehile for people who have small children b/c of the water-proof fabric and floors.
- TPMS light has multiple consumer complaints b/c it always stays on
I have had one other Element before this one and traded it in for a "newer" model. After having signed the papers, as we drove off, the TPMS indicator came on. We stopped and asked the dealership about it and they explained that b/c it was cold, the sensor was sensitive (it comes on if the tire pressure changes by 1 point) and it would go out. IT DIDN'T! I took it back the next day, had it reset, and the 3rd day I owned it, the indicator came back on. I once again called the dealership and they told me the same thing. After researching the problem online myself, I've found hundreds of people have the same problem. There's nothing you can do, it doesn't really affect your cars performance, it's just very annoying. It's a flaw that the company knows about and hopefully will recall soon! Also, the fabric protective that they put on the 2008 isn't as great as the 2005 (neither is the warranty for the interior b/c they had morons spill paint all in it and want a refund!!) If I had my way, I would've stayed w/ the 2005 I had and just traded it in for another 2005 w/ side impact airbags!...read morehide

- Nice Instrument Cluster Colors, Great in Bad Weather, Solidly Built
- Noisy, Bouncy Ride, No Passenger Side Door Lock
I have owned my "Ellie" for a little over a month, now. Have the 08 EX in Atomic Blue. It's my first Honda. I tend to be partial to Toyotas, but wanted to get down to one car versus an old 4runner and a fairly new Camry I've had a while now. The Element seemed to do everything both my old vehicles did for me combined. It's great for my dog, hauling things, outside activities, gardening, beach trips, etc. Hated giving up the great gas mileage in my 4 cylinder Camry and its smooth ride. And while others, including myself notice the gas mileage, the mileage in the Element is still better than most SUVs out there, so I really can't complain. After all, it is a truck. You just can't have it all when it comes right down to it. There's always a trade-off with every car/vehicle you look at. And I get tired of vehicles pretty fast, too. But I can honestly say that this so-ugly-it's-cute vehicle is so, so functional, I can actually see myself owning this vehicle longer than any I have in the past. Heck, I may even pay it off and keep it! I'm sure the Honda reliabiltiy factor will allow for that. I do have a few minor complaints. While it is a good buy, there still should be a few more options. I mean I know Honda is looking to make a profit on Element through accessories, but something more than what's there SHOULD come as an option or standard. Why can't fog lights be offered instead of having to buy them after the fact? There should at least be cross bars on top as STANDARD. And why not a door lock for my passenger? And... why, with all the cavernous space in this vehicle are there not more cubby holes for storage? Outside of that, the black interior is nice, but easily scratches; not sure what's up with that. The ride is a little bouncy, too, but I did just come out of a Camry. Those are my only gripes, but outside those nit-noids, am pretty happy overall. I do like having something not everyone else has. Plus, the thing is just so cute, every time I get inside it to drive it, it just makes me smile. I really enjoy it, and can't wait to go on my first road trip....read morehide

- Great all around vehicle - especially for kids
- Could use more power. Gas mileage not great for size of engine.
The best thing about this truck is that you can't possibly mess it up, even in winter. The rubber floor is a quick cleanup, which is great if you have dogs, kids, etc. or anyone with muddy shoes. The suicide doors are a little tough in narrow parking spaces, but once open allow great access to the back seats. Quality is there, as usual with Honda products. Handles well in snow (mine is 4WD), and wind resistance is not as bad as I originally thought it might be given the shape of the vehicle....read morehide
