2008 Honda Element

- Versitility for bikes, pets, Excellent sound system, reliability, safety, quality, handling.
- SC vs EX; If you want smooth vs fast cornering, or tightest turn radius, consider buying th EX
The SC is my second element; my first was a o4 EX, which I also loved. The SC is like owning a customized Element, without spending a ton to do so. I once counted the features I liked about the SC over the older original and came up with 20. (Some of them are now standard on the EX also). The biggest improvements over the years have been: Safer with the side curtain airbags; quicker with the cool air intake and 5 speed automatic trans.; cooler with the new grill, lights, and custom paint(I chose ROOT BEER), more convenient with the seatbelt in the front seat back(don't have to release front belt to open the doors when letting someone in the back out at a stop); more confortable seats and plusher floors with driver/passenger area carpet and mats; more appealing interior with copper accents, backlt dash/radio controls. The new projector beam lights are the brightest headlights I have ever driven.
For some things I did prefer on the older Element: sounds funny, but I really liked the sliding visor flaps on the old Element(not sure if lack of this item is specific to the SC) They were handy to block the sun and I never had any issues with them. Maybe Honda decided they had no cool factor or were too nerdy but they worked. I don't miss the rear sunroof unless we are camping, but I would prefer to have the option to have it on the SC. Also, you do not have the option of all wheel drive. The sport tuned suspension is stiff, which I like most of the time, except when transporting people who don't appreciate a sportscar feel. Rough roads seem like rough roads, but it's a blast to take thru the curves. The EX is the best choice in ride for everyday driving; it would be great if you had the option to soften the SC ride with a dampening/tension control.
The Element is a different vehicle, and most people simply don't get it. I have gotten more compliments, and fewer people asking me "so, do you like that thing?" since I traded for the SC. Still, the average Joe will say the same thing. "Whats the mileage?....really? I thought it would be better" I usually respond "well, I guess Honda could have made it slower." Though not a dragster, it is peppy and responsive, and the 5Speed auto (new in 07) makes it feel faster than it actually is. The sound under acceleration is something you may like or not, but again, I think it is sporty. I have no answer to what SC stands for, but I have fun telling people it is for SO COOL!...read morehide

- Most interior room of any vehicle in it's class. Tons of cargo space
- Seats four, not a big deal if you don't have a family.
This is not a cheap China car like the competition would like you to believe. Very nice fit and finish. Decent gas milage almost 28 MPG on highway. When we first started looking at cars I never would have dreamed that we would buy a toaster looking car like this. The dealer told us to take it home for the weekend and see what we thought after driving it for a couple of days. Drives like you would expect from a honda....read morehide
