I love this car but I have to admit that it took me about 6 months to really know how to drive it for maximum economy and best acceleration. Fuel economy: warm weather 48-50, cold weather 42-45 MPG. Whether you get excellent mileage (as opposed to very good) is largely dependent on how you drive. One reviewer mentioned that he thought the "paddle shifters were a joke" whereas I would not want the car without them. I suspect he has never driven a standard transmission, since you use the paddle shifters to down shift just like you would in a manual transmission. They adds greatly to the acceleration AND the fuel economy. If you use the economy (color) gauge to help you, you will notice the economy gauge switch from blue to green when you down shift (paddle shifter). One other important issue: I live in Ohio and it gets pretty cold here so I was keeping the heater on maximum. What I found out was by dropping the heater to 70 degrees adds about 5-7 mpg. Strange but true. I also found the AC has virtually no effect on fuel economy. I have about 25,000 miles on my Insight. On a recent 1200 mile trip (during warm weather, with the AC on) I got 50 mpg. I was traveling between 55 and 70 mph during most of the trip. So, my experience is that fuel economy far exceeds the sticker estimated MPG.
