- Superb gas mileage, lots of amenites, spacious interior, Honda quality
Purchased As New
I purchased a 2010 Insight, and it currently has about 18k miles on it. I consistently get 41-42 miles/gallon, although this dips slightly in the winter (running the heat brings it down to about 39). I haven't had a single quality or service issue. Agree with many of the positive comments that have already been posted. If you are looking for fuel-efficient, reliable small car, get an Insight.
A few have commented negatively on the Insight's handling, acceleration and engine noise. Fair points. I would just say this -- if you are used to a full-sized sedan (I was -- my previous car was a Subaru Outback), then yes, the Insight will feel a little different at first. But you have to remember what it is you're driving: a highly fuel-efficient, economy car...It's deceptive because the exterior says "sports car", yet the Insight doesn't quite behave that way. It accelerates a little differently than a conventional car, but you adapt to this pretty quickly. If you really need to floor it for whatever reason, the Insight will respond. Incidentally, my next door neighbor drives a Prius; we've traded stories and the two cars behave very similarly.
As for the interior being cheap or poor quality, I guess this is a very subjective call -- I haven't found this to be the case. For the money, I think it's exactly the right amount of quality (the sound system actually exceeded my expectations). But if you're expecting it to be like the interior of a BMW or Audi, then you might be disappointed.
So maybe here's a summary: for a small, temporary trade-off in handling/acceleration (temporary because you adapt to it), you get a lot in return -- a fantastic, fuel-efficient Honda that makes getting around inexpensive.
