- terrible gas mileage
My 99 chevy venture van completely died at 140,00 miles. It got 18 city, 25 highway routinely fully loaded with passengers/luggage and with the a/c on. i get about 16.5 city/23.5 hwy under similar conditions. the VCM (variable cylinder management) isn't what it is cracked up to be. it is too sensitive to acceleration changes making it almost worthless. It's at the 5000 mile check so I'm giving the dealer my list of mpg complaints. who knows, maybe it has a bad fuel chip. The 99 chevy and my other car, 95 Saturn, both get epa ratings. Did I get lucky or is this a lemon. I know 3 other Odyssey owners who swear by them. I don't think any of them have ever owned an American vehicle. The Venture had more internal room also. And why would they (Honda) add more horsepower to a minivan. The only people I know who own them have kids and the std horsepower was always sufficient for me. Ergonomically, the Japanese have a lot to learn. Why is it that the rear fan control is closer to the driver than the driver/passenger control? All of the middle and rear seats in the chevy had floor recessed mounts. The Honda has above floor mounts. You need covers. The rear seats can't be moved forward or backward. That's the price you pay for being able to "roll them into the floor". And then there is that infernal permanently mounted tray between the driver and front seat passenger. Can't fit anything in there. It was an impulse buy. I won't do that again.
