2008 Honda Odyssey User Reviews
- $11,664 - $19,622
- Ride, Sound system, Comfort, Looks
- Gas mileage poor
I had a 2005 Odyssey had a few problems with mechanics, all covered under warranty and traded it in for the 2008. Loved the upgraded features standard with the '08 model (especially the back up camera), The ride is great. I don't understand the other reviews from the unsatisfied customers. I find the Odyssey to be the most reliable in comparison with the T&C, which I had. In 2 years changed the front brakes 3 times. Poor workmanship compared to the Odyssey. We love our Odyssey and recommend it to anyone that's looking for a minivan.
The trims are the best selection in the van market. Mostly the EX-L trim comes with all the toys besides the Navi. Love it....read morehide

- Exceptional motor and handling. Great gas mileage
- Horrible fit and finish, poor erogonimics. Sold it within the first year.
Honda means quality, especially brand new, right? I'll start by saying the positives. First the engine power was incredible for a minivan. This model having the cylinders cutting out for increased gas mileage made the sale. The problem with this system is keeping it engaged. To work at highway speeds, you have to go over the speed you wish to go, then slow down watching for this very small light to appear on the dash behind the stearing wheel to appear. Once it comes on you better not sneeze or move. One light press on the gas will kick those cylinders back on.
Fit and finish was horrible. I had a wind noise in the sun roof they could not find. The styrofoam in the dash rattled on every medium and hard bump in summer...every bump in winter. Oh, and if the road had any vibration, the speedometer jumped around. The right passenger door had to be adjusted twice and still was to hard for my 6 year old boy to open (I had to always use the remote). The left passenger headrest rattled because it didnt' fit right, the leather on the back seat was coming loose at the bottom, the brakes made a metal to metal sound when applied with any pressure...yeah, great quality. Erogonomically, just some anoyances like air vents that only angle down far enough to hit your face, unless you are the driver...he/she gets almost no air because the air vent is behind the large shifter mounted on the dash.
This model is also supposed to have extra sound deadening. My old 1999 Dodge caravan, 2006 Mustang GT, and 2005 Dodge Dakota with a V8 have less road noise than this van does. I would actually have to pull over on interstate to hear phone conversations. I had never had and still haven't had to do that in any other vehicle to this day. Be aware...read morehide

- Styling, comfort, utility, everything a minivan should be!
- stereo controls away from driver
Traded in a Nissan Pathfinder (which was excellent for us) and really expected a lot from this car and it delivered! The sticker price for an '08 Odyssey was about the same as our '02 Pathfinder and gave us so much more! I am so impressed with the quality of this van that I will probably buy another in about eight years. Looked at the Dodge - it looked amature, the Toyota was dated (the salesman was very scary!), Quest - I really wanted to like this van because my Pathfinder was so excellent, but it too was dated (though much cheaper). If you are looking at a minivan, a Honda is one that you should definately look at first, then drive everything else after....read morehide

- Comfortable Ride
- Way too many problems
I have owned my Honda Odyssey, model EXL for almost two years and keep having the rear engine mount break. The cars engine will vibrate when criusing from 55-70 mph. Not good for hwy driving. My rear engine mount was replaced by the dealer at 24k and again at 55k all under warranty. Now I am being told that when the rear engine mount breaks again (and it will). I will have to pay for it $900 worth. Honda makes great cars, not vans. Other problem with the Odyssey were the rear brakes would always squeek. I would suggest you look at a different company when looking for a reliable van. I have recently traded in this van and got almost nothing for it and now drive a Civic and much better mileage and I hope reliability....read morehide

- fuel economy just ast it says on the sticker. Very Smooth ride, looks great, great if you have kids
- Sometimes the trunk doesn't shut all the way when you close it.
This care meets all of my expectations. My husband and I have owned Honda's for many years. We absolutely love them. The Odyssey is no exception. I have not idea what the other reviewers are talking about. The ride is fantastic and the power doors are the best for a mom of two. It is super east to get my kids in and out of the van and the storgage in this car is amazing. The Odyssey is a solid car and I feel very safe driving my kiddos everywhere in this vehicle. The features are wonderful in my book, but I am not one who has owned a lot of luxury vehicles. It has everything I would want on a car. It rides like a car, not like an SUV, so it is easier to get in and out. This was great while I was pregnant and for my grandmother. It also isn't as bumpy as a truck or SUV. Honda's are amazing cars that last forever. We have owned three Honda's before this on and we still own two others. They are both over 10 years old and running wonderfully. I think this is the best mini-van on the market and it really holds its value as opposed to many other manufacturers. I hope you enjoy this van as much as my family does....read morehide

- Good fuel economy, comfortable, 3 separate climate controls, GPS/DVD/backup camera, handles well
- PAX tires expensive
I love this car. After having two Ford minivans, Areostar and Windstar, in which both had transmission failures, I searched for another company. I tried them all and the Odyssey was the best by far.
I love all the features: heated front seats, radio controls in the steering wheel, adjustable pedals, traction control (works great in the ice and snow), great acceleration (holds at 70mph even on steep grades), GPS (also use as a phonebook), kids play video games and watch movies on the DVD screen, lots of cup holders, great hidden storage in floor, storage everywhere, easy to store rear seat (that also reclines), feel safe with curtain airbags in front and 2nd row seats, automatic rear doors and lift-gate also great and easy to use, sunshade and opening windows in 2nd row, rear doors will not open while car is in gear (safety) and parking sensors. The sound system is great, love XM radio and the 6 disc CD player. The diagnostic center is also wonderful, gives info. on MPG, tire pressure, % of oil life, temp. among other items.
Only drawback is expensive PAX tires - $309 each here (over $600 each in the San Francisco) and limited places to purchase or service them (the dealership I bought my car from can...read morehide

- decent fuel economy and comfortable ride
- expensive Type 4 maintenance and prohibitive engine replacement cost
I bought a Honda while living in Canada because of it's reputation for getting 2-300,000+ miles out of a vehicle. I received 100,000 miles of good service from my Odyssey before the engine went. It was instantaneous, no warning signs. The mechanic said that was extremely unusual to see but that consolation doesn't help when it costs $5,800. to replace the engine with a USED one. Needless to say, Honda didn't cover any of that. I will try something with a much longer warranty - at least it's covered when it has to be repaired. I don't think there will be any more Honda's for me in the future....read morehide

- Buying under the dealership pressures
- Lucrative dealerships
Bought an LX yesterday, thanks to the pushy salesman. I am selling it to carmax today, worst car i have ever bought. I am done with _ONDA. Lucrative dealerships, went to a few and noticed that all of them talk the same way. It seems that they all went to the same sales training or something. Before I walked away from my LX model, I gave it a good kick on the front grill to relieve my anger. The kick cracked the grille in three places, felt really good. This was probably the most positive experience I've gotten out of this van....read morehide
