- great vehicle in every way
Purchased As New
it feels like a car when i drive it but has the benefits of an truck, the best part for me is it is easy to enter and leave which was one of the main reasons i went with this vehicle instead of the counterpart by toyota and also it is a solid feeling vehicle compared to toyota's very tinny feel. i love this vehicle, cannot say enuf about its great qualities, would never buy a larger vehicle like the oddysey, this is just right for a 62 year old who has grandchildren to taxi around town and also i love the back instead of a trunk which i never used, i can pack it up and go with no prob. everything is easy access, love, love this vehicle...read morehide

- Navigation, a ton of features, seats 8 people
- no power seat for passenger, fuel mpg only 19.5 avg, no rear air for 3rd row
Purchased As Used
We live in Texas so we do alot of driving. The avg mpg could be better but it's a 6 cyl SUV and it does not get the advertised 24 mpg hwy. The rear air function is good for the middle row but takes awhile fot the 3rd row to cool. The nav is expensive to upgrade @ $ 180 from Honda website However my wife loves this vehicle and it was a steal @ $ 18,000 when we purchased it April 2009. Overall if I were to buy another one ( newewr model ) I would buy one used again because it is to expensive new so you can save a few dollars going that route. Honda makes a great product and would recommend this to anyone but Domestic vehicles are getting better every year and could potentially rank as some of the best cars/SUV's in the market. SO DON"T FORGET TO DO YOUR HOMEWORK BEFORE YOU BUY!!!!!!!...read morehide

- Interior creature comforts are great, room for family and friends, decent power.
- Does have more noticeable road noise than I'd expect for a plus $30k vehicle
Overall, I am with a few others who don't quite get the large amount of completely negative reviews on the Pilot. Gas mileage isn't spectacular, but no worse that our minivan was and it is a larger size vehicle. Ours seems to be in ECONOMY mode quite a bit and yet there is plenty of available power when you need it. Compared to other SUVs out there I still say this is one of the best OVERALL values you will find. I am counting on Honda's quality reputation and so far I haven't had any of the mechanical issues some have complained about. It is comfortable to ride, versatile, and with the roof open actually fun to drive. I will say that all future new or gently used cars I get will have a navigation system in it. We use that all the time now..........very convenient. You really only notice the much maligned road noise when all is quiet in the cabin, etc. But most of the time it just isn't a big deal. Anyone looking for 100% perfection should be looking at a car in the $50k+ range. For what the Pilot claims to be/do, it does a fine job....read morehide

- Nothing worth mentioning!
- GAS GUZZLER, PRICEY, NOT MUCH VALUE, RESALE IS DOWN, DON'T KNOW WHY?
I HATE TO SAY IT, BUT THE HONDA PILOT'S QUALITY IS REALLY DOWN! I AM FAVORING TRADING IT IN FOR THE VOLKSWAGEN TOUAREG WITH 3.6L V6 276HP GETTING 16/20MPG & COST $38,000. HAVE TO DO IT SOON TO AVOID BIG DEPRECIATION ON THE PILOT!

- Honda badge
- Honda badge is not what it used to be, MPG is 16-17 on average
Jon from Tampa, you must drive your Pilot like a granny or paddling with your feet to get MPG over 18 MPG....unless all you drive is highway at 65 MPH. This is one bulky SUV we are dealing with, lots of wind resistance and weighs more than 4500 LB. Honda estimates are all flawed...crooks! I agree with other user reviews, Pilot's MPG is big issue...unless you own a BP gas station!!
I traded mine in for 07' RX 350. Love every moment. MPG is consistently 23-24 on average without driving like a granny. Reliability wise, Honda's quality deteriorated after 80's models. Even Acura/Honda dealer salemen told me that RX is better SUV. Honda is a good choice if you are looking for a beater like Civic or Accord, but nothing else. I know now why Lexus/Toyota is #1 auto maker in the world!...read morehide

- MPG, ride, noise, sound system
I had a second handed 86' Accord which was my 'beater' car. I had to traded it for $100 after its master-cylinder failed at 170K miles. It had 2.0 liter carburated engine, and I got real bang from it (30mpg average). As I said, traded it in, for a 03' Camry LE and in 06' I bought Pilot EXL 2wd for wife. Initially we were impressed with its size and ride, but as months went by, we realized 3rd seat never gets used, horrible MPG in local, too big & heavy for daily driving, tough to park in tight spots, very poor sound system (my 03' Camry LE came w/ LBLs and sounded 100% better), and overall poor craftmanship sompared to Toyotas. Let me tell you cannot compare Toyota vs. Honda. If you are looking for a beater then go for Honda, but if you enjoy refined/upscale feel and higher-end parts used, I definitely recommend Toyota/Lexus over Honda/Acuras.
Sorry Honda, you guys failed me...I will NEVER BUY HONDA AGAIN (I might consider Ford Focus as my next beater)...read morehide

- three carseats fit across back seat easily, good price
- Seats are terribly uncomfortable, drives like a truck, hood sticks out too far
I actually didn't buy this car. I wanted to so badly because it was the only car where three carseats (one 5 pt harness and 2 boosters) fit easily across the back where the kids could buckle themselves in. I liked the idea of having the third row for occasional use. But honestly, the front seats are so uncomfortable I could barely stand it. My husband couldn't either (and he is very thin). I have test driven it multiple times hoping I could get over it but I can't. How do so many people drive this car??...read morehide

- Large gauges, roomy
- see below
I had Silver 06' EXL w/ Navi but after drving it around for only 10K miles, I knew that Honda is a Honda. I paid $34K plus tax when I bought it new. As much as I did not want to trade it in, I thought it would be better to do it sooner than later. Here were the reasons for gladly trading-in for a Lexus; With crazy gas prices these days, Pilot's MPG was only 17-20 at the best, driving feels clumsy like driving a Ford Explorer or Expedition, turning is VERY lazy, 3rd row seating got never used, gear stick is stiff and steering wheel is too heavy to drive it easily, paint came peeling off on couple of spots(even after getting special paint protective package), weak battery(two stock Delphi batteries died on me), leather material started to wear out, w/ lines and faded areas, becaue it is lower quality/thin), rear hatch door is too heavy, 16" wheels and donut tires got old fast (most SUVs now come w/ at least 17"), crappy stereo/speakers, unpleasant dealer services, front leg rooms are bad fr anyone over 5'8" (especially the passenger side), and last but not least, Lexus does everything better....read morehide

- Energetic engine, spacious
- poor traction, bad stereo system, noisy ride, too much wind noise
This is one wide SUV. Unless you are VERY good and careful with parking in small spaces, esp. in city/urban life, you will have heck of time. If you don't need all that space (by the way, I strongly wouldn't recommend buying it for 3rd row seating, since that is the riskiest place in accident for your kids, esp. in rear-end crashes). Cheap vinyl 3rd seat and cheap plastics inside. Even in good roads, you will hear annoying creaking sound. Also, driving at high speed, or in windy days, you hear too much WIND NOISE, for what Honda claims a aerodynamic suv. Otherwise, good cabin storages. MPG is far worse than what I anticipated. If you don't need all that space, there no need to haul around over 4500 LB vehicle. I am getting average 16 mpg and I am very fuel conscientious driver. I heard MDX is even worse.
If you want to save oney, get CRV or new RAV4. If you want SUV that will carry the qualities and resale value for more years to come, nest time, I am going for Highlander or RX....read morehide
