- Terrible Gas Mileage/Useless Navi System
Purchased As New
My review was removed because I wrote all the facts about my honda pilot. Now I have to pretend it's a good car otherwise they will delete my review again. I bought it brand new. Gas mileage was terribly low, even when adhering to the tire pressure guidelines while driving on cruise control in mild weather, and on roads without any bumps or potholes or hills. We test drove our new car down the I5 for four hours without traffic going about 65mph average and barely got 19-20mpg. The ad on our car advertised that it can go up to 26mpg. Really? On what basis? I drove my honda accord for 7 years and have always exceeded the gas mileage of 21/29 to an average of 25/31. I am a very smooth driver, do not like to break or accelerate abruptly and always maintain my vehicle according to the maintenance guidelines. Hence, I don't think it's the driver. I think it has to do with the person who should be imprisonated for reporting false numbers to sale their product.
Aside poor mileage, the navigation system is aweful. It is a downgrade compared to my 2003 honda accord navi. I have plenty of witnesses that it gives the wrong directions and when it does give you the right direction, you are already off the exit you are suppose to get off on. It's definitely more harmful to rely on while you are driving because it gives you the directions after the fact,ie too late, then giving you directions a few minutes or miles beforehand. I have never had a problem with my accord navi for the seven years that I have used it. Now, this is completely disappointing and I have thrown away my money for a useless feature. I paid $38k ($3k below msrp) for this awd w/dvd, yet feel like this car should be worth only $33k. They totally raised up the price for this car for features (navi, dvd) that are completely useless. If I had known these features are useless, I would have just bought a plain awd with no navi or dvd player. It's so small, and my poor 9yo has to stiff his head up to watch uncomfortably for the long car ride.
There are plenty of other features that are downgraded and time consuming toggling on the technical features that I just don't have all the room to write down here. Instead of upgrading my honda accord, I felt like I have thrown all my money away and downgraded to the point I regret my decision buying this car.
The only reason why I originally chose this car is because it was simply roomy and I will need to transport more than 5 people every now and then....read morehide

- Very Roomy
- TERRRIBLE Gas Mileage!!! Cheap Quality Material
Purchased As New
Bought this car brand new and still, while cruising 65-70mph on highway for 4 hours straight on I-5, I only got 19-20mpg. No where near the 22mpg "average" that was advertised. The eco light was on most of the time, we did not accelerate or brake at all while cruising for hours on, neither did we go on any hills or bumps and yet the best number we got was about 19.5mpg. The mileage definitely does not have anything to do with the driver as they claim. I drove my honda accord for over 7 years straight and always exceeded the average gas mileage. Instead of 21/29, I usually average about 25/31 easily. The sticker posted on my brand new pilot says that the mileage for highway can go up to 26mpg. That is completely impossible. Even when I tried driving at 45-65mph with absolutely no breaking, bumps, potholes or hills, I was barely able to hit 20mpg for a few minutes and then the numbers went back down to 19mpg. Whoever came up with these numbers need to get fired for false advertisement. It is a crime to write numbers down without themselves actually test driving these cars on a real road. Do they expect us to get these numbers test driving in our own garage hanging from the air?
For the extremely expensive price of this car, all you get is cheap plastic inside. What an insult to the buyer. And for the extra thousands of dollars you pay for the entertainment system, all you get is one small dvd screen. Definitely not worth the money. Also, the front row only gets 2 cup holders. Honda could have easily incorporated at least 2 more cupholders on the doors if they followed the previous honda accord models. What a terrible downgrade. Why is it necessary to give the middle row 6 cupholders when the front only gets 2? Just does not make sense.
On top of everything, the navigational system is also a total downgrade from what I am used to with my 2003 honda accord model. It gives me the wrong directions and yes I have witnesses to that! Also, the mpg display is such a pain to get to...requires lots of scrolling to get to that screen. With my old honda navi, everything is displayed on one screen and you can access this information with 2 touch only. The new honda pilot navi and mpg display is definitely more annoying and time consuming to use.
The only reason why I bought this car is because it was an 8-seater and being a honda, I thought this "trusted" brand would give me better results on mileage or quality for my money...now I know better. Should have saved thousands of dollars by buying a highlander.
For the terrible mileage, cheap quality materials and entertainment system, bad navigational system, etc. this car should have been priced at least $5000-$7000 less than they are charging....read morehide

- Ride, options, value
- Road noise, MPG

I really wanted to love the new 4 Runner and had my heart set on it, until I drove it. No head room and a wussy engine. I also tried the Highlander but I wanted rear entertainment without navigation. Sorry, not possible from Toyota. Then I drove the Honda Pilot and fell in love despite it's boxy look. I ended up with the navigation anyway because the price beat the highlander limited. Believe me, I test drove many, researched long and hard, and the Pilot won hands down. Wonderful job Honda....read morehide

Overall, an SUV that incorporates the best features of all other SUV's. Very roomy, great engine, excellent electronics, convenient storage. Have about 10,000 miles so far with zero problems - typical of Hondas!
