The very best bang for the $ .

by john from Morganton , N.C. (7/05/08)
Pros:Good looks , great performance , good comfort .
Cons:none

I don't know how anyone could not love this car . It looks great , sounds great , has plenty power without the V-tec . I bought mine new in 2006 , I have over 20,000 miles on it . I've taken several long out of state trips , I still haven't run it into V-tec yet . Seems to go fast enouth as it is . It's great on trips , turns a lot of heads . It get's good gas miliage , it's just a great little car for the $$$. I think you get a lot for the money considering it's cheaper than a VW Beetle and looks a lot nicer . The only problem I've had is mine come with a bad tire which made a awful roaring noise . Got that fixed and now I'm well pleased , thinking about going back for another new one . Oh , I haven't had any gear problems either .

Heavy, Slow, Underpowered

by Chris from Oklahoma (6/08/08)
Pros:None
Cons:Uncomfortable, slow, no acceleration, not fun to drive, terrible suspension and steering.

If you want a fun sporty car to drive, look else where.

It has no kick, feels like a truck trying to accelerate from stop. It feels heavy and underpowered.

The suspension, steering, and control make the car feel like an old Town Car or Cadillac. There is no connection to the road and it feels much to soft and bouncy.

It's hard to believe for the lacking performance that this car provides it still requires premium fuel. It's mind boggling.

Overall, I'm very disappointed with the Si. I was looking for a fun to drive pocket rocket and the Si does not fill that role. One might as well buy the normal Civic which gets substantially better gas mileage and does not require premium, you will hardly notice a difference in performance.

Si all around fun with great mpg

by AJ from Livermore, Ca. (6/04/08)
Pros:Great value, good mpg, handling is very good, interior excellent and build quality very good.
Cons:Cars can always have more horsepower imo. However, this is a commute car for me so no concern.

I'm very impressed with this car. Not a single problem so far. Dealership treated me well as did all of the Honda Dealerships that I visited during my quoting process. I picked my '08 Si for under $20K and in every area except horsepower it exceeded the 350Z I owned.

I love the LSD, Digital Dash, Seats, Extra Seating, Room and better mileage. It rides very well. However, I did upgrade the tires to BFG G-force Super Sport A/S which helped the ride and quieted it down a tad without losing any of the cars super handling capabilities.

The sunroof is a nice plus for this model. The stereo is much better than my 350Z was. It looks and required less from me than my 350Z did to make it a fun / nice car to drive on a daily basis.

Love the trunk space and the 60/40 split seats for when 3 of us go golfing.

Shifter is short and silky.

Lots of fun features for a car under $20K. The 350Z is a better car ... but, for $11K more with less comfort features included I'm glad I picked the Honda this time around.

Still miss the Z but, if better mpg is your goal. Nice option to think about.

Best in Class, Respected Heritage, Affordable!

by EL Diablo from Los Angeles, California (6/01/08)
Pros:Sporty modern design, i-VTEC Acceleration, Decent MPG, Rare on the Road
Cons:3rd gear notchy, some squeaks, sun visor broken

I've owned my 2007 GG Civic Si for 1.5 years and 13,500 Miles.
Great car. Period. For the price you can not go wrong. Best car in its class. Nothing compares. VTEC is a blast. This car looks good, is sporty, has back seats, is inexpensive, gets better than avg. MPG, is very quick and handles like its on rails. As expected with a sports suspension the ride is harsh and stiff. Radio sounds great, MP3 aux jack is awesome, easily have Sirius and my iPod plugged in. basically you get a fully loaded 197HP sporty car for less than 22K. Not to mention the build quality is excellent(some cheap plastic inside) and Honda's reputation is 2nd to none. Reliability and resale are top of the pack. I love that this car is not available in automatic. You won

Take your anxiety meds before you enter dealership

by Dan Projansky from Evanston, IL (5/30/08)
Pros:fuel economy, aero dynamic, sound system,
Cons:Horrible blind spot through rear window when backing, notchy stick shift

Nice looking car, good on gas. I am surprised at how notchy the stick is. First gear to second is difficult and easy to kill engine. Upper arm support is hard and uncomfortable. I have the EX model and I find getting comfortable in the shifting position from clutch to stick difficult. I had a Ford Focus with Gertrag transmission and I found that to be superior to Honda's stick. Buy automatic! I had a bad experience with the Honda dealer. Watch out Civic buyers, in most instances there is a 2.9 rate for financing the vehicle. My dealer tried to sell me a 6.5 rate and was not going to tell me of the lower rate. Do your homework. And if you have a trade-in, bring with you an estimate that you got from another dealer or through blue book. My dealer tried to steal my trade-in from me. I have a bad taste in my mouth from my buying experience, hope you have better luck. I wouldn't buy from the Dealer I chose. Good car, bad dealer. Shame! By the way, the sound system is good and the car has 6 airbags. Seats are fairly comfortable. Driver's side window is difficult to position; the button is touchy. Vibration of engine makes ceiling interior rattle. The 140 hp is quick and responsive. Real good turning radius. After owning the car for just 9 days I would grade the car a B. The dealership gets a D-.

Best fast bang for your buck.

by Jason from Elgin, Illinois (5/02/08)
Pros:Engines vtec, standard features, handling/LSD, gas mileage considering high compression engine.
Cons:Small inside, interior cloth attracts everything, 6 speed a little rough, no gas mileage indicator.

Did a lot of research/test driving before buying my 2008 Civic Si coupe. I test drove the GTI, Cobalt SS turbocharged. Both the GTI and Cobalt SS turbocharged seemed quicker. The Cobalt SS turbocharged is most certainly quicker. Still both the GTI and the Cobalt SS turbocharged are 3-5K more in price. Both also cost more to own/maintain.

Researching problems found that the Civic Si had its fair share. Specifically the Civic Si has a third gear issue. I did find the TSB for this and made sure the Civic Si I bought VIN number was not included in the suspected list. Granted this does not promise anything, but it better then doing nothing. None the less, if the problem comes up, I have a offical TSB from honda explaining/forcing them to fix it.

So far, I love the car. For 19,500 it is worth every cent. It is not the fastest thing out there, but is is certainly quick when it needs to be. It will not beat no high liter V6 or any V8, but keeps up with any 4 cyclinder. I would state its performance similar to that of my 2005 Cobalt SS Subercharged. The only difference would be the the Cobalt SS Subercharged made its power early while the Civic Si makes its power late. If the two raced, the Cobalt SS Supercharged would pull off the line first, but the Civic Si would catch up and at the post 60mph mark and blow by. The Civic Si handles great. The LSD makes a lot of difference. Even with low grade tires, the car still holds the corners better then any of the competition I had driven.

The interior dash information layout takes a while to get use to. Still, I like it. The seats could be a little wider for my large back.

Overall, on a one to ten scale, I give the car a high 8.

I still love this car even with it's problems.

by owner from california from los angeles, ca (4/21/08)
Pros:fun to drive, handle, lots of power, very sporty
Cons:3rd gear sticks, limited interior space

This is a great car overall that is fun to drive, except the one thing that bothers me is the 3rd gear sticking. I went to the shop and they said my gear was faulty so they replaced it. Three months later my 3rd gear still isn't 100% fixed. It still sticks but it's more uncommon. I'm glad I'm not the only one who has this problem. It seems as if many other people have this same problem. Also my clutch sometimes makes this clanking noise when I push down. I love this car, but I can't compare it to anything else so I can't really say you should buy it.

Nice car one with one con.

by Krista from Chicago, IL (4/03/08)
Pros:Excellent handling, fun to drive, sporty, good value, and just a nice car. I love the dash.
Cons:Obviously it is a compact car but at times it can seem too small.

I love this car it is the first car I bought on my own. I really enjoy driving it and like how responsive it is and how it handles corners. The only problem is that I get cut off more than I ever have before. I think it is because the car is smaller than anyone I have ever had before. I had an Acura CL 01 before I got the Civic Si 07. So I went from a midsize to a compact and I can tell. I like the car but I think I may get something else just because I am tired of getting no respect on the road. I'm not a timid driver at all.

Made a good choice buying this car.

by MN Rider from St. Paul, Mn (3/31/08)
Pros:LSD works great on wet (snow) and dry, handle very good on corners, powerful v-tec engine, sporty!!!
Cons:None.

Come on people! This car has the best value for a sport car. I bought my 2007 Honda Civic Si brand new for about $20500. Wow, You can get a sport car with all the racing gear such as LSD with VSA, 2.0 197 Hp dohc v-tec engine, 17 in. alloy wheel w/ tires, etc,. With all these goodies for under $21,000, you can't find any competitor out there in the market. Or maybe you can get a used car. This car is like the Honda S2000 younger brother with fewer horsepower. The Civic Si has a 2.0 liter engine as the S2000. The only thing I like about this car is its LSD and its v-tec engine. I like the way it handle on fast corner and the v-tec sound when it kicks. You want power, rev it up past 6000 rpm and you will FEEL THE POWER OF I-VTEC. I say whatever I want to said, but if you want to know the truth about this car performance, go test drive for your self and it will solve solve your problem.
