Not too good for the money.

by Edith from Castro Valley, Ca. (7/23/08)
Pros:Very good looking car, comfy, and lots of room.
Cons:Bad brakes, noise, shake, wind noise in the sun roof, expensive.

When I went to see this car for the first time I fell in love with the car. It was roommy, and comfy, and I love it. The funny thing is that almost every single bad reviews here was just the same issue that I was dealing with. I came to the conclussion that, this is not a good car for the money. Toooo expensiveeeee! I can't not believe Honda hasn't done anything about it. Anyways, A year after I bougth it, I was dealing with big problems. I started to feel an ugly noise in the brakes specially whenever I was going downhill. There was a wind noise in the sun roof, when I put my finger in between the roof and the front glass edge, I was able to feel the roof unatached from the metal part of the car. The car shake a lot when driven in the freeway at more than 50 miles per hour. Also, it was giving me only about 16 miles per galon. I thaugh mine was the only one with this problem but now that I now that it wansn't, I would never get another one.

Very nice Mini Van

by Cruzan from Atl. Ga. (7/20/08)
Pros:Handles really good, Very Roomy, Fun to drive Great family van
Cons:none

I was very surprise with this mini van drives really well. I or I should say my wife has had this van for almost 8 months and we really like thia van. We take it on long trips and you don't get tried and worn out like I do in my pickup. The seats are very comfortable and the dvd keeps the kids happy. I have not had any problems with the brakes so far. Really have nothing negative to say about this vehicle. Definitely would recommend to anyone looking at mini vans.

Nice Looks, Lousy MPG

by Guzzled Dry from Harrisburg, PA (7/19/08)
Pros:Looks, good ride, great for kids
Cons:Lousy gas mileage

I'm a lifelong Honda lover - 81 Accord, 87 CRX, 01 Civic, etc and did lots of research before choosing this van. We picked this over the Toyota mostly because of our history with Honda and because the gas mileage was 1 mpg better than the Toyota. WHAT A MISTAKE! Granted, I do a lot of around town driving, but I am averaging between 12 and 15 mpg, while doing everything I can to save gas (don't carry a heavy load, don't brake hard, etc). Even when doing lots of highway driving, I haven't broken 20 mpg. For a vehichle that was supposed to be 19 city and 25 highway, I'm VERY Dissapointed to say the least. Dealer only said to let it break in to 7500 miles. Well, now has 9500 and nothing has gotten better. Internet research now shows lots of people have this problem, but no one seems to know why some vehicles meet the MGP and others fall far short. In the end, with rising gas prices, I'm left holding the bag on a vehichle that doesn't come close to meeting gas efficiency claims. Otherwise, car runs fine. It's just frustrating that the 1994 Mercury Villager we traded in for this one (and we hated, by the way - horrible paint peel problem) got better mileage than our new car (it routinely got 21 mpg on an average tank of gas).

Rides like a car, feels like a SUV.

by Lincoln6Echo from Illinois (7/12/08)
Pros:Plentiful leg room, comfortable seats. great looks
Cons:Wind noise more than expected, Stereo system only has one tuner per source.

I don't understand a lot of the negative reviews for this van on here. For one are they even regarding the 2008 model? Probably not, but oh well.

Anyway, when we searched for a new mini-van, we tried out several. The 2008 Chrysler T&C, Toyota Sienna, and finally the Honda Odyssey. The T&C was nice, but the interior layout still looked like the original T&Cs that came out in the early '80s. Nothing really new, besides the modern electronic gizmos. And the Stow'n'Go and Swivel'n'Go seating are not very comfortablle. The Sienna on the otherhand was small. Yeah, it may look the same as the Odyssey, but the interior, as most Toyotas are, are a bit smaller than the equivalent Honda model. We're all big people and ample leg room is a must. The Odyssey wins hands down there.

One issue that I find odd about the models with RES's is that there's only one tuner per [radio] source. Meaning that the front and the rear can't listen to more than one FM, AM, or XM station at a time. Being used to multi-tuner satellite TV receivers, I find that odd that the RES only has one tuner per source.

As far as ride goes, see my title. The van has the ride of a heavy sedan, but the shear bulk of the vehicle gives it a SUV feel. Which I feel is a good trait.

Time will tell

by Flavio from CA (7/11/08)
Pros:good reputation for reliability
Cons:brakes, wheel alignment, unpleasant dealership experience

frankly, everyone told me I was better off getting a Japanese make rather than a U.S. one. Only time will tell, but I can tell you that I am off to a bad start. Toyota did not want to negotiate price so I got stuck with a Odyssey because my wife liked it. The car has 12700 miles and I have already gone twice for brake vibration and for a wheel alignment. The dealer told me that the problem is the way I drive and the roads I drive on. I hate going to dealers. Always an aggravating, unpleasant experience.

Great car except for the horrible brakes

by bl from chatsworth,ca (7/09/08)
Pros:Great acceleration power, comfortable and roomy. Fuel is good for a minivan.
Cons:Horrible brakes. Poor CD player design. Often jams or malfunctions.

Few months after we purchased the car, we already have problems with the brakes. When braking in warm weather, the brakes rattle and shake violently. We thought the car won't be able to stop in time. We send it back to the dealer, and at that time, the dealer said there was a recall on the brakes. Why we didn't get a recall notice is still a puzzlement.

Few months after the first replacement, the brakes were acting up again. This time the Honda denied or pretended to not know what we were talking about regarding the brakes.

We replaced the cd player once because it jammed all the cds. We figured it was our fault because we used the affixed labelled cds. After it jammed again, we took it to a car stereo store. They say the cds jammed because the electronics of the stereo were "fried" from regular use.

Great Vans but terrible brake rotor design and con

by Kevin from Yadkinville, NC (7/06/08)
Pros:Roomy, nice ride, turns very sharp, looks good for a van
Cons:BRAKE PROBLEMS !! Down shifting going down hills for no reason, clunk sound when Anti-Lock Brake Sys

These are great vans EXCEPT Honda clearly has the worst brake systems I have ever encounterd on my now three Hondas. A Civic, my wifes CR-V, and my Odyssey. Prepare to pend at least $225 for brake rotor and pad resurfacing every 50K miles on any of their vehicles. This Odyssey of mine is the worst I have ever seen. The dealership says it is my driving style.....If thats the case why is my wifes CR-V driven 48 miles round trip, Monday to Friday on flat terrain starting to have severe steering while vibrations due to poor brake rotor material and being under-sized.
Honda you have brake issues and you know it!!

Honda Odessy is the way to go for van

by Hemang from Cleveland (7/06/08)
Pros:Stylish look, good fuel economy compare to any other van available
Cons:None

We narrow down our choice to Toyota Sienna and Honda Odyssey. But based on perfomance, negotiable price, stylish look, we gave prefrence to this car. Good Safety-rating, less insurance cost are the cherry on the top... so if you have children or planning to have... this is the choice you may want to go for. My family like this car over toyota Sienna and nissan quest.

Toyota dealer was charging more... even less attractive look, less mpg and less features. Honda Odessy is the way to go.....

Super for kiddos!

by J Helms from Memphis, TN (7/05/08)
Pros:Perfect for kids, very convenient!
Cons:Loud ride, gears hard to change, back auto lift gate should be included, middle seats not stowable

Overall, I am satisfied so far with our purchase. This is a very convenient van and the kids love it. It is too hard to remove the middle row seats which is annoying. Then once you remove them where the heck do you put them? There is good storage space, great features (minus the auto life gate in back which I hate I did not get the Touring model for), and it is very reliable. I have also been getting the gas mileage specified. The service people at the dealership are not as friendly as I had thought, but I was spoiled with my last car (GMC). This is really a great van even though I am a SUV lover! :-) The kids love it, my life is easier and that is what counts!
