Purchased As New
My previous car was a 2002 Acura RSX type S. When sold it had 137,000 miles. It got 30 mpg average from day one till the day I sold it. When shopping for a new car I looked first and foremost for a car with better millage. The Elantra is better but not as much as I anticipated. I have trouble averaging even the combined estimates of Consumer Reports.(33mpg) Hyundai has already lowered their millage estimates for this car. The best millage I have gotten on the highway is about 37.8 for a long flat stretch on Rt 95. If you add hills or mountains and plus 70mph driving speeds the mpg goes down. Around town I get about 31 mpg. So I'm a little bummed about this feature of the Elantra Coupe. I had wanted another 6 speed manual like my Acura but this was not available from Hyundai with the "tech package" which was a BIG attraction for me.
OK, that is the bad part. The rest is generally good. I like the touchscreen nav system. My wife has a year old Honda Accord with a nav system and this one is far superior. The car is comfortable and the driver's seat is adjustable and heated. I particularly like the "auto" feature on the environmental heating/cooling package. You just set the temperature and forget it. Likewise for the headlights. Put it on auto and the headlights are on/off as needed. I didn't need the push button start but it is nice to have. On the road, the car is more comfortable to drive than my Acura with less noticeable bumps but is less "sporty" as well. The rear end "jumps" a little when pushed in a turn. The electronic steering takes a little getting used to and requires a little more attention. The sound system with the XM radio feature is very good as is the Ipod connection. I also stream my own music through my bluetooth phone. The styling on this car is exceptional and is one of it's better features.
The car has only 7000 miles on it in 6 months so I have yet to find out about "reliability" features. So far - so good. I have not found anything I really dislike about the car and quite a few things I really like.
