- Pros
- Great fuel economy, alot of standard features for the buck, comfortable ride, XM stereo
- Cons
- Fuel pump replaced at 1500 miles, low tire pressure guage, weak acceleration
I purchase my 08 Elantra in June 2008 and I am very satisfied with this vehicle. I currently own a Honda and Toyota vehicles and so far I been impressed with my Hyundai Elantra performance. It is a smoothe ride and it gets great gas mileage. I averaged about 420 miles per tank on a trip from Texas to California. The only problem I had so far with this vehicle is that the fuel pump went out at the 1500 mile mark but the dealership replaced it with no problem. It is a little slow at accelarating but once you get going you are fine. I feel very comfortable driving this vehicle on long road trips it was a penny saver when gas was over $4.00 a gallon in California this past summer. I love all the standard feature that this vehicle came vehicle a great deal for the price. There is no way I would have been able to purchase a Corolla or Civic at the same price with all the extra features my Elantra GLS. I plan to give this car to my teenage daughter next summer as a graduation present. She is going to need a reliable car that gets her great gas mileage when she leaves for college....read morehide

- Pros
- VG fuel economy, 30mpg avg., gd room for seating for 5, nice ride and surprising good acceleration
- Cons
- electrical problem with electric doorlocks, but fixed w/o a problem.
I've compared this car with Honda, Toyota and Mazda and the Hyundai offered more features, equipment and better warranty.
This is my second elantra and it's better designed this year. My other elantra is a 2002 with 88K! and it's still running great. the problem I had was the electric windows, but it was fixed by replacing the motor and it's been fine. Easy to drive and with surprising power for acceleration. The gear ratio is developed by smart engineers because I can see the RPM low when I am at high speeds, that just shows me that the car is not running that hard and that saves gas. It's not as quiet as when I first brought the car, but my wife and I are still happy. The warranty and servicing is great. The shop replaced my whippers, light bulbs, brake pads for free the first five years! Keep up the maintenance (oil, lube, filters, coolant, antifreeze) and the car will take care of you. Very nice car for the money. That's why we bought another Hyundai. Planning on buying another Hyundai for my daughter next year....read morehide6 out of 8 people found this review helpful.

- Pros
- Excellent gas mileage (about 400 miles to the tank), quiet ride, low tire pressure light, XM
- Cons
- Sort of blends in; doesn't stand out
Excellent car for the money. Although it may blend in on the road, it is a nice looking car with all the gadgets you may need (power doors and windows, CD player, AM/FM/XM radio). It is comfortable and roomy and gets phenemonal gas mileage! I've been getting about 400 miles to the tank (granted, alot is highway driving, but still)!! It has really good reliability and safety ratings as well....read morehide

- Pros
- Many features, smooth ride, quite, tight feeling car, exudes quality
- Cons
- None but it's new
Drove a 09 Corolla. Competant but a snoozer. The Elantra (08) has a nicer interior and drives real easy. Yes, the steering is by electric motor like all cars will be soon and it takes a little getting used to but it's accurate with no slop. The engine pick up is adequate and the automatic's shift points are smooth and well timed. The ride is firm but not harsh. The engine is a little loud if you gun it and it gears down. But in normal driving modes it's well behaved and unobtrusive.
No plasticy feeling here like in most cheaper cars. Gad, even the cubby lids are nicely damped!. It'a a feeling of quality throughout that is very impressive for the price point and beyond....read morehide8 out of 14 people found this review helpful.

- Pros
- Great fuel economy, plenty of power to pull it through even the steepest of mountains.
- Cons
- Ride is very compareable to an economy car. Even braking and tight steering.
I bought my Elantra in 06, and have beat her hard up and down the road. I travel aprox 30000 miles a year, in all types of weather. She has yet to give me a reason to cuss her that I havent caused. I have 80000+ on her now, and have never had issues. My dealership has been awsome. They have taken care of my every need. I couldnt ask for more out of a compact car....read morehide

- Pros
- Many standard options for the price that Honda and Toyota can't match.
- Cons
- Steering takes awhile to get used to, be sure alignment is straight to lessen this type of steering
I've had this car for five months, have put 4,000 miles on it. So far it handles and out performs the old Saturn I purchased and had for 11 years. I've heard it said it was a little rough on bumps, true on the bad bumps, but the Saturn was way rougher but overall a good car. I hope this car's reliability competes with the Saturns overall reliability and I will be happy. Can't beat the warranty and this is comforting.
-------Again, the performance, features and comfort of ride are all beyond what I would of expected from this class of car!!!...read morehide4 out of 12 people found this review helpful.

- Pros
- 31mpg average, roomy, comfortable interior, nice design
- Cons
- a bit rough over bumps
I have had the 08GLS for 13,000miles now and still satisfied with purchase, I had to take vehicle to dealership once and was well taken care of. I was considering a Civic / Corolla and felt they were about $3000 overpriced and relied on name recognition to support it, and the Elantra was by far the best value out there. One needs to realize that the resale value will not be anything like some others down the road but I have no intentions of selling the car within 6 years so that was not a factor. Also the warranty with Hyundai is excellent vs a mere 36,000mi on most others....read morehide

- Pros
- Price was excellent, $10,200 out the door brand new 05. Decent Power and very roomy for its class.
- Cons
- Take off power is so so but once its going, look out. Seats stain easy. Not solid like honda
I've mostly owned toyota in my life and plus a nice saab but toyota seems to be making their cars with less interior room and like honda, are pricey. I own a nissan truck which is great but wouldn't own their sentra. The elantra is by far the best deal out there for it's class hands down. I bought my elantra in 05 for $10,200 out the door and brought it back from the city to the mountains where I live and going up the steep mountain, I was able to pass a honda(civic) with ease as I flew by it. The corollas were no match for the elantra as well going up a mountain road. I'm 6'5" and fit great in this car as the elantra has more head and leg room then the civic or corolla. Alot of room in the back too as well as the trunk. Snow! this car handles great in snow, with studs acourse. But it can handle the snow with out them just as could the honda or corolla since they're all front wheel drive but the elantra seems to have more clearance which is important for snow country. This car is three years old now and haven't had a single problem with it. I wanted to wait this long before posting as most people post their reviews too soon. They aren't giving the deals like they were in 05 but they are by far a better choice then honda or corolla....read morehide

- No trim specified for this review
- Pros
- quiet, feul economy, more feature
- Cons
- performance, steering, and suspension
Hyundai should have option engine(2.4 liter) on SE to compete with Mazda 3. Need to improve steering feedback. Suspension should also be revise to make it sporty. If Hyundai accomplish these three elements above, It will give Mazda 3, Corolla and Civic a stiff competition. Hyundai reliability have been notice by many people. I currently own Sonata 06. Its reliability is very good....read morehide
