- fuel economy, price, standard features, roominess
- initial pickup is a little slow
I test drove the Elantra and Honda Civic, and found no significant difference in performance and ride. With the lower price and cash rebate it was a no brainer. I bought the car to avoid using my gas guzzling full size SUV for the work commute, and I am thrilled with my decision. The car is roomy, has a great ride, and gets twice the mileage of the SUV. The XM radio is great and the blue backlighting on the instruments is a pleasant change. My only suggestion would be the option to purchase automatic door locks and power seats....read morehide

- Very safe car
- A little under powered, Thin metal exterior.
I recently bought a 2008 Elantra in June of 08. I was sitting stopped in traffic on Rt. 80 in New Jersey. There was no one behind me and a lot of sunglare. An uninsured motorist came slamming into me between 50 and 70 mph. Absolutly crushed the rear end on my car. The car crumpled as designed all the way up to the back seat and including the roof. Besides being bruised by the seatbelt I was not injured at all. Hyundai's active headrest spared me from neck injury and the car absorbed all the impact. I am truly very lucky. The car performed exactly as designed. I own my life to this little car. My insurance basically bought the car back from me and the insentives were so good including the loyalty rebate that I was able to upgrade to a 09 Sonata for a tiny bit more than the Elantra. Thank you Hyundai...read morehide

- Excellent fuel economy, nice dashboard, protects battery from absent minded, rides OK on snow.
- Needs outdoor temp. monitor, shows 2 miles more than actual, tire press mon comes on at 29 psi
I drove Elantra SE from Anchorage AK to Denver Co. and was loaded with my stuff. The Hyundai mechanic pumped 40 psi to tires with no approval from me. I zeroed trip meter to zero and drove it for 3400 miles. Average MPG was 42. So now I keep my tires pressure at 35 PSI and enjoy the my savings.

- Great breaks, large interior, XM Radio
- Gas mileage not as good as advertised, cheap interior
Was a bit hesistant on buying this car when I compared it with Corolla, Sentra, etc.. and after doing our exhausting research, finally realized it was not close-This car has more in terms of options and with a great warranty, its was a easy choice-Recently drove from NY to Virginia Beach and it was pleasure to drive with two kids. XM radio is great, Radio Disney and dozens of other channels was great for the long ride. Overall, solid car....read morehide

- 36 mpg first road trip. Comfortable. No wind noise. Accelerates fine. Warranty top of class
- I can't find any cons. think we got a great deal for our daughters first car
Love the warranty, roadside assistance. Seats are comfortable for even long trips. Excellent gas mileage. Feels like a mid size car. XM radio is nice. Lots of safety features are standard, that you don't find in a lot of other cars in its class, and the price was unbeatable. Two daughters have Elantras. Our third daughter will probably also get one. Don't think you can beat it....read morehide

- I'm a big guy and I fit with room to spare. This car has get up and go, extras are excellent.
- no cons here, I'm glad we switched to this carr
This car give quality in a small price a new name, I've had small cars before but none that were so well equiped. The ride is a bit stiff, but for the value and the mileage and all the extras, this car is a great investment. I have long legs and I fit in the front seat. This little car is great. My two sons fit very well....read morehide

- Fuel economy, warranty, Appearance, PRICE!
- needs a bit more power, wish it was built in the USA
I’ve owned this car for about two months. It’s the first time in my life I felt good about a purchase well after driving the car of the dealer’s lot. I got a great deal on it. The dealerships in Rockford are brutal so I went online and dealt with Rosen Hyundai of Algonquin, in Illinois. They were great! I made the deal they sent me what it was going to cost and when I got there, that’s what I paid. There was one hitch in the deal. The sales manager sold the car by phone as I was in route. These babies are hard to get. After I came a bit unglued he apologized and I got my car. The finance guy even gave me an extra tenth of percent less for the hassle.
I’m not the kind of guy who measures every drop of gas; however after driving two Oldsmobile’s for years I’m very impressed with this car. I live in Northern Illinois; we filled up the car, drove to downtown Chicago and back, then to a Chicago burb and back and my wife drove the car to work all week including running errands and we still had over a quarter tank of gas! WOW, I simply can’t believe it. It’s comfortable, great looking, nice interior but not great (Olds Aurora is a heck of car) and I’d buy another one if anyone would give me close to trade in value on my Aurora but they won’t. I drove the Yaris sedan and we liked it but it didn’t offer heated seats and the dealer would only go $200 under retail price. We also drove a Dodge caliber and a Dodge Avenger. Both of those vehicles were noisy, poor acceleration and the fit and finish was less than satisfactory.
Do yourself a favor and drive this car. You'll end up buying one. Unless you're mad at your money....read morehide

- almost 40mpg on the hwy. 25mpg+ in hard stop n go driving in town.
- need to steal car from the wife just to drive it.
We traded the wifes E300 Mercedes, due to fuel prices. Shopped ALL compact cars. For saftey, value, room, fit n finish, ride n drive the Elantra was the winner for us. The first thing I did was put in a K&M air filter, it added to the zip off the light which I liked and a couple more mpg which made the fuel mileage excellent!!! A friend of ours was so impressed with the quality of materals in this car that he is selling his 325 BMW to get a Black SE....read morehide

- Excellent fuel efficiency, quiet ride, roomy interior
- Head-turner, it makes you "talk of the town"
Bought our Elantra SE at Central Valley Automotive. Fully loaded except the bluetooth and rear spoiler. Dealership service is good. The Elantra SE handles well in a windy road and superb comfort during straight and long drive. XM radio (free for 3 months), 172 watts speaker, blue backlighting, purple rain exterior color and a wide array of safety features makes you feel "above-class" status. Add the tires with nitrogen in it and presto...as if you're driving a car in the 45k range....read morehide
