- No spare tire (the only "con" I could think of)
Purchased As New
Full disclosure: this is the first Hyundai I have ever owned, it is the third car I have ever bought "new." Previous brands I've owned include Mitsubishi, Nissan, Scion, Volkswagon and Saturn. I am not a Hyundai employee nor have I been paid to provide a positive or negative review.
That being said, the 2013 Hyundai Elantra Limited (metallic sky blue) is hands down the best car I have ever driven. I bought it primarily for the advertised fuel economy and available features. I am beyond impressed with the spaciousness of the cabin and the comfort of the ride, it far exceeds what I had read in some "negative" reviews. The ride is very smooth, steering and braking are almost effortless. There are only minor differences in trim levels so many of the top-of-the-line features standard in the "Limited" are also available in the GL and GLS models. The major price difference seemed to be in the "Technology" package, which I opted not to get; forgoing accessories like 7 inch screen with navigation and push-to-start functionality.
What I did get was an elegantly stylish, feature-rich, practical premium four door sedan. i would emphatically recommend this vehicle to anyone looking for a new sedan, fully-loaded with everything you will use and nothing you won't and covered by an "industry leading" warranty....read morehide11 out of 13 people found this review helpful.

- Cons
- Terrible Brakes
Purchased As New
Don't buy this car if you need to use the Brakes. The car jumps all over the road when attempting to stop at speeds higher that 35 MPH. Front end grinds like metal to metal grinding together. I only had 200 miles on the car when I had this trouble. many other owners are complaining as well

- Pros
- VERY good looking car - extreme attention to detail from every angle
- Cons
- Very rough ride, poor gas mileage, bad electronics, most uncomfortable seat I've ever sat in
Purchased As New
Bought a 2012 Elantra Ltd - it is SO cute!!!! It is such a piece o' #$%$!!!!! I do a lot of highway driving and I felt like my butt was dragging along the road - felt every ripple and pebble in the pavement.
Terrible gas mileage - avg 27mpg tops.
The seat was SO uncomfortable - tho I loved the heat! even when it came on randomly, I just turned the AC up. I was constantly fussing with cushions and pillows to ease my lower back pain.
The worst was the major issue with the electrical and/or security system. The car would just lock up and fail to start - steering wheel locked, shift selector locked, brakes locked, ignition key would not turn. Sometimes it would return to normal after 15-20 minutes, twice I had to have it towed. Then, the doors would lock randomly - like when I shut the trunk or just for no apparent reason. I had it in the shop several times and they could not replicate the issues and the codes read fine so as far as they were concerned there was no problem. I took the $3-4k hit and traded it for an ugly but RELIABLE 2012 Toyaota Camry - which gets BETTER mpg, avg 32mpg...read morehide2 out of 6 people found this review helpful.

- Pros
- Great mileage, surprisingly nimble and stylish. Fun to drive.
- Cons
- Stiff suspension makes speed bumps your nemesis; interior can feel a little cramped.

It's hard to find better bang for your buck than the Elantra. I'm thrilled with mine. The only thing I would change would have been the interior. I should have held out for leather, because the standard isn't as comfortable since I'm used to leather in my other car. I test drove a lot of cars, and the Elantra felt the best to me-- which is a bit of a surprise, because a friend of mine had an old '99 Elantra (I think that was the year), and it was the most uncomfortable ride I had ever had. They've come a long, long way since those days....read morehide

- Pros
- Lousy MPG compared to window sticker
- Cons
- Road Noise
Purchased As New
I bought this car new based on reviews and the MPG sticker on the widow. But was I surprised, my mileage is lousy compared with the window sticker. Than I come to find out the EPA caught both Hyundai & KIA misrepresenting their mileage claims. Plus, a law firm back east has filed a class action law suit for Elantra owners because of the lousy mileage owners have been experiencing. In addition, both companies are issuing gas cards to certain vehicles. Check this out, I own a KIA Soul also and the Elantra is suppose to get better mileage than Soul. Not the case! The Elantra that has 3000 miles more than the Soul was issued a $63.00 gas card & the Soul was issued one for $274.00. Go figure that one out! This program is suppose to be for the mileage for the life of the vehicle, issuing cards every so often for the mileage driven. Hyundai corporate has been contacted about my MPG problems and all I have received is excuses and no action to fix the mileage problem with this Elantra. My overall recommendation is to look at buying your vehicle for some other company. Why this is, is because what I have experienced with Hyundai and their lack of caring for customer concerns. They are forgetting the most important part in business -- The customer....read morehide

- Good MPG. Value for money. Nice design!
- Cons
- Ride is kind of bumpy.

I purchased a 2013 Hyundai Elantra one week ago. The outside of the car looks really slick. I got the limt. with technology package. The GPS shows the current traffick conditions of the freeways. That is really convenient since I live in the LA area and there are always accidents.
One thing I want to note is that I got the cargo net for the trunk and it's actually very useful. It holds my groceries and they don't fall out.
MPG have been pretty good. At one point I was averaging 50MPG I was going about 65mph. In city I get about 27.5. I am very satisfied with my new car.
I looked at Toyota and Honda and am so glad I went with this option.
I initially went to different dealerships to price shop and then went home and contacted a internet manager. It was a much better experience and the offer a price that can't be beat.
The only con I have for this vehicle so far is when I am driving you really feel the road beneath you. I notice it more when I am driving through town and pull into a driveway and there is a bump. It's pretty jolting....read morehide6 out of 8 people found this review helpful.

About me; I owned audi,vw, bmw, nissan,Chevy both new and used, and like most of us i had high milage used very first car in high school/college , so i have some experience to make a good comparison head to toe , i drove in Asia, Europe and States plus i am an engineer I hope this review will be helpful and you all drive safe and be happy.
I just bought a new elantra limited after checking out Ford focus, honda civic, mazda, and few others. For starters it is best looking under $20K, loaded with features that you don't expect in this price range, big trunk , interior space is good for a compact , material quality is alot better than honda civic. Some says ride is rough but hey, with 17inch wheels with road full of huge cracks , uneven patches and potholes, you shouldn't expect a pillow ride :) Brakes are little touchy, stops very well, you can always get quite ride tires with paying more with better braking distance, not continentals are adequate.
If one to complain, you should go for those construction companies who do all the repairing on interstate/city roads.(no offense)
About mpg, i pushed the limits and drove like holding a new born baby, accelerating very gentle and keeping the speed around 40 miles per hour, i have seen 41mpg on the trip computer. But again it is not very realistic in real world driving so with 65-70% highway 30-35% city , you should be getting around 28-30mpg.
Performance/Engine; Car doesn't feel like 145hp but after about 2000 miles i am sure it will accelerate better but still don't expect a Acura RSX a Camaro performance or a V6 performance.During acceleration engine roars but not too bad, and it sounds like lawn mower somehow :) It takes to get used to electric steering wheel, it is very light , easy to drive in slow speed but on high speeds it makes you little nervous to hold the car in line without making any corrections.Civic and corolla have the same problem.
Reliabilty; Exhaust gas smell coming from manifold sometimes, may be a small leak , not sure and slight burning smell when heat on high , it can be coming outside though.
I hope car goes 60K miles without any major problems.Todays world you can buy a porsche or lexus and still can get manufacturing problems since car companies are buying parts from other companies and they can make mistakes. So thats why we have warranties :)
Comfort; Seats are very firm, i am getting used to, it doesn't feels bad as the day i bought it. I am 5'10 and 180 lbs so there is alot space on the front and the back seat.4 adults around my size can seat comfortably in this car, i don't recommend the 5th.Leather is perforated so it won't stick on you when it is too hot in summer.2 stage front heated seats and 1 stage back heated seats are working alot faster than the ones in new Audi.
Audio system is quite good, it also has 3 months free XM radio, ipod connection,mp3 CD playing and bluetooth phone connection including bluetooth music streaming through your cell phone, you can control everything from the streering wheel including the trip computer.Trip computer shows only basic information.
Vision; it is quite good considering the shape of the car, you will definetly need blind point mirrors on both side mirrors ( you can get 2 for 6-7 dollars online) or you should turn your head to see before changing lanes. In europe they are standard on side mirrors.
For those considering to buy this car, i would recommend the american made one (built in Alabama) not only you can save some jobs for many fellow americans, but also tires (continental) are better than the ones built in South Korea (hankok), especially in winter conditions.
Good luck to you all!...read morehide5 out of 6 people found this review helpful.
