Purchased As New
The only thing that will not feel like you bought a luxury car is your wallet.
I traded in my 2006 Scion xA that I put 137k miles on it for the 2013 Hyundai Elantra Limited. I do a lot of heavy driving (160-mile roundtrip commute to work), and I spend a lot of time in traffic. (Welcome to D.C.)
The car I got has Gray exterior and interior... but it's different shades. The chicks really dig it, and, compared to my Scion, I feel dominating driving it...So I named my car "Fifty".
The heated leather seats makes you feel pampered. Even when it's 100º outside, turning those bad boys on just makes me feel relaxed. I'm stuck in traffic next to a guy driving a car that spent twice as much as I did-- and we are both going nowhere. I'm comfortable, and my wallet isn't feeling the pinch, vs Mr. Suit with the open collar in the Lexus who is pulling out his hair because he realizes that he's going to have to tell his wife she's gotta work the corners at night to make ends meet.
The Bluetooth feature is really nice. For making phone calls... Apparently if you have an iPhone, the bluetooth stuff is even better for managing your music (hitting "next" 30 times after selecting shuffle), but for droid users, (like myself), I have to actually manage the music from my phone... which is exactly what I had to do before-- so why complain?
I just filled up for the first time this morning, and the MPG for the first tank came to 33.5 MPG. (Average speed: 40mph) I got great gas milage with my scion-- but I'm happier with my Hyundai.
The sound system is a little weak. It's nothing to complain about-- it's not like they stuck a transistor radio under the dash, but there is more to be desired. Maybe I'll look at taking it in and getting it upgraded-- but more than likely, I'll just learn to love it. (Anyone who has been married knows what I'm talking about.)
I never had a keyless entry car before.. so when I hit "lock-lock" on the keychain, and I first heard the horn, I was kinda sad. It sounds like beeker from the Muppets. Oh well, I just won't use it, and instead just give the ole' one finger salute like everyone else in DC.
I will go and get tinted windows on it. I didn't have tinted windows on my previous car, but the "Limited" looks so bare without dark windows. Apparently that's something that I'll have to do myself. I was hoping that Hyundai had privacy glass they could install, but I was told that I could just spend $250 at the shop down the road, and they do a good job. So I'll check that out. Or maybe I wont... it all depends on what the magic 8-ball tells me this morning.
Also, and I don't know if this is because it's a new car, and I'm supposed to "putt-putt" it around for the next 2k miles on it (or whatever it is), but I wish the engine had a little more of a "get up and go" in the engine. I mean, it's not like you are going to be running neck and neck against a UPS truck, but if you are used to to pulling out of a side street onto a 55mph highway (with cars going 70), and tighten your eyes as you floor it, hoping that the car behind you has good brakes... well, you might want to get used to that "pucker factor"... because I would not recommend doing that, at least until you get a better handling of it. (or at least turn off the eco feature)
